How many people hang onto a pair of pants for 55 years? And what if those pants had been a store-promotion giveaway! Well, Fred N. Dotson Jr. still had his first pair of pants and the box they came in. On June 16, 1982, he showed Dave Bloom the pants he had received in 1927. The dark-green, short-legged pants had been a gift to all newborn boys in Tucson from local men's clothier Myers & Bloom Co. The promotion ran for 10 to 15 years. The original Myers & Bloom Co. store was sold in 1930. Then Dave's father, Dave W. Bloom, opened Dave Bloom's Men's Store, Downtown. After their father's death, three sons continued the family business until 1991, when Dave Bloom & Sons, in El Con Mall, closed its doors for the final time.
