Ok, here's a Ring-necked Duck with the neck ring actually showing. Not only is the ring seldom visible, but it's brown so it is not very obvious.

Thanks Doris. Depending on the lighting, they could easily be mistaken for the Lesser scaup. So, as you pointed out, the ring around the bill is the key ID. BTW, beautiful photo!
