Excitement was high on March 31, 1988, as the University of Arizona basketball team set off for Kansas City and the NCAA Final Four. Before getting on the plane at Tucson International Airport, homegrown star Sean Elliott took a few minutes to sign a T-shirt for Tom Van Osten of America West Airlines. Alas, the Wildcats would not make it past the semifinal game, losing to Oklahoma 86-78. Kansas beat Oklahoma in the finals to become the 1988 NCAA champion.
