I took this photo of a red-crested bird on the island of Hawaii 10 days ago. It looks similar to the red-crested cardinal that Rick W. posted earlier. I notice this bird is not exactly the same: it doesn't have the cardinal tuft on top and its beak is orange. This bird would NOT fly into a tree--it either walked around in the dirt or it sat on this pickup truck. Pretty bird without a pretty backdrop. :(

You're half way there though - it's a yellow billed cardinal. Also from Brazil (like the red cap cardinal) and introduced into Hawaii. Rick W. - 32 weeks ago

Andrea, I think the backdrop works just fine and the bird is spectacular!! Looking forward to more Hawaii photos!!
