"Also, at least four people were banned as a result of public sexual indecency, usually stemming from getting caught doing inappropriate things at the UA’s Main Library, records show."
Could this be some of the "homeless" crowd seem to be allowed to make a certain section of the library their home away from home?

Could also be some couples like to make the library their "bed" away from home in the stacks, too. It's true, the Wildcat has reported those kinds of incidents before!

The library was notorious for lewd conduct back when I was in school. It seemed like a competition to see who could get the most exposure in the "Police Beat" section of the Wildcat.

This is nothing new! Assuming they are actual students and well-to-do rich kids, Mommy & Daddy will fight and simply pour out their financial resources to get them off the hook. God help them if they are poor kids who who actually have to work their way through school though!
As an undergraduate in 1980 at The University of Maryland in College Park, I can still remember a couple openly going at it (all the way!) in one of those little study rooms up in Hornbake (undergraduate studies) library. We all just went about our study busness as usual though. None of the library personnel tried to break it up either. They also had to remove all of the bathroom stall doors in McKeldon (graduate studies) library because of all the sexual horseplay that was going on there back then. They say it was worse in the 60's.

This is a pitiful story. I hope they were not college students!! If they were, they need to be sent home. Tucson has so many homeless, more than I have ever seen, anywhere, that it is possible it was them. And for adults to be doing this sort of thing, I don't know why..

I am deeply sadened to hear that people are having sex in the library. At Penn State we use it for study. . . (and we have a better football team too.)

I thought about it many times, as I often dated girls I had classes with (and studied together). It seems ridiculous now, but at 19... two people in a private room. Its like expecting a dog NOT to chase a ball. Come to think of it, I have no idea why I was ever able to refrain from it.
Anyhow, from reading the police blotter in the Wildcat, it seems that most of the "sexual indecency" incidence in the library are flashers, not fornicators.
Every year it seems there is someone who gets their jollies from exposing themselves to the co-eds.

It's not only sex. Violence and threats of violence against students and staff get people on the list. The problem is, what happens when they violate the order? Not much.

#6 Gary - As a proud UofA alumn, I can say we're all happy for you using your library for study. However, remember that UofA is, and always has been, one of the top party schools in America and we have a reputation to protect. One of the main attractions is all of the partying, sex, soaking up sun, and debauchery! Glad to hear the Cats students are still doing the same things we enjoyed thirty-some years ago!

As a current student the fourth floor of the library gives a whole new meaning to the words "Bear Down"
With that said if someone of you would read the story, people who get these orders are people who have no business with the University. I.E Homeless people. The library is open 24 hours to students and staff, but it closes to the general public at 1 a.m. Most of these orders come from homeless people flashing the coeds or getting their jollies off at the computers in the ILC. Or if their not homeless, their part of our criminal element of our society who are only on campus to break into cars, buildings or even worse attack and rape some unsuspecting coed as she leaves the library at 2:30 a.m. after pulling an all-nighter, studying for a test she has at 10 a.m.

#12 Peter K. If students are having sex in the library it's sure isn't me but yes it still happens so the current student body is carrying on the tradition that you and the rest of the alumni have started.
#13 Ron J. Your're right students and the general public isn't being kicked off campus.

As a recent UA alum and former library staff, I can tell you there are no shortage of students having a good time in the library. I think I spent more time there than I did anywhere else, so may as well incorporate some extracurricular activities!

two kids in a dark study room are learning a heck of a lot more than you could ever get from reading a book! :)

Uhhh, I think students have sex at more college libraries than people might think. Arizona is not alone in that regard at all.
Most of these libraries have private study rooms and very narrow, isolated aisles where they can have their moment.
However, I doubt that in U of A's case that it's students being kicked off of campus for have relations in the library. That seems kind of extreme.
