Obama challenge: keep Hispanic support

President Obama’s challenge is to ensure that Hispanics pledge allegiance to the Democratic Party for the 2010 elections and keep supporting him through his own likely 2012 re-election race while he tackles the divisive issue of repairing the nation’s patchy immigration system.

"Republicans could alienate Hispanics if the vocal right again takes control of the debate with angry rhetoric".

Oh...my allegiance is to no party, and the vocal right will be taking control of the debate again. There will be no amnesty.

In the words of the ever high Obama, it's "UNPRECEDENTED", just like everything else, in his mind!

I'm not sure why it's in Hispanic citizens' interests to have more illegal immigration. But I guess that's what the demagogues at Telemundo and La Raza tell them and most are believing those groups have Hispanics interests at heart.

If we end up with a truly divided nation - along language/racial lines - we are in trouble. No nation on earth has done well with that situation. But that seems to be the goal of the multi-culturalists and the Hispanic racial groups.

One fact you will never see the Star or the liberal news admit..

Illegals hurt poor Hispanics and poor Blacks the most of all because they take jobs desperately needed by poor Black and Hispanic citizens.

Obama and the liberals love illegal alien Hispanics but in that undying love they are hurting poor Hispanic and poor Black citizens a great deal.

Whatever your race, what we need in this country is leaders who have our interest in mind instead of theirs.

All you Democrats, Republicans, etc. research your candidates well before you vote instead of being sheeple being led to the slaughter by your elected officials who only seem to care about their retirement packages, not YOURs.

#4: Great point, good observation. The (legal) hispanic population needs to recognize they are, at their core, conservatives. The republican party needs to concentrate their efforts NOW in getting them to realize this. I would like to see the younger generation, too many of who are basicaly apolitical, begin to soul search and exploer where they really stand, rather than wait every four years to be sheep heardeed at the poll booths. "No se dejan!" *Hope I spelled that right *

The US Chamber of Commerce and local Chambers love illegal alien Hispanics and in their exploitation of them, they are not only hurting poor Hispanic and poor Black citizens a great deal, they have created this situation.

Both parties have courted them as eventual voters.

I wonder if Obama realizes that for every push to garner the Hispanic voter, by forgiving their illegal bretheren, with "legalization" promises, he is tempting the alienation of voters on the other side of the legalization coin?

We all need to wake up to the fact that we have elected a complete buffoon as President. He will do no one any favors - regardless of your skin color. I know some will post "well, at least he is not Bush" after me and I agree. Obama is so much worse than Bush.

I love to tune to right wing radio and listen to the looney tunes, cry, whine 24/7, they did with gusto and consistency during the last 8 years of GW Bush Jr's reign, blaming all the woes on the bleeding heart democrat liberals, ignoring the fact their man GW Bush Jr was in the white house, controled congress, senate and held the all powerful presidential veto! How soon they forget this mess is their creation, their unplanned pregnancy! The baby arrived and now they do not want to change those smelly diapers, but at least they are consistent, cry, whine, moan and complain woe to me and mine! :-)

Why you're under the impression that any particular race should be catered to is evidence that you are racist. And while you're at it, explain why Hispanics need the special attention.

"struck a chord with Lucy R. Moreno of Houston, 70. “Finally, we’re getting what’s due to us"

I wonder if a pro-illegal immigration supporter could explain to me what she means by "What's due to us" ?

Perhaps she could take it up with Vicente Fox or Felipe Calderon

If illegal aliens cannot vote, Obama owes them nothing.
He better remember that and put US citizens first and also remember that we are a nation of laws.

Identity politics and political correctness resulted in our current administration.

If you stand with your principles, pandering to any subset of the electorate is not required to gain victory. Reagan proved that people can think for themselves.

Simple as that.

"Republicans could alienate Hispanics if the vocal right again takes control of the debate with angry rhetoric."

“Our community will judge him based on how he delivers on the promise he made to see immigration reform early in his administration,” said Janet Murguia, president of the National Council of La Raza, suggesting the issue trumps everything else.

-- All this is saying is that this group is a 1 issue vote, pitiful.

Immigration reform translate to amnesty and rewarding people who broke the law.

It is offense to say republicans can alienate the hispanic vote with "angry rhetoric. Enforcing laws is now angry rhetoric. Problem is that we (the people) were promise on the last round of amesty that this would not happen again.

We are losing common sense in this country, we can not even agree that breaking the law is wrong
