The children of citizens of Arizona do need our support and funding, but they need it in a way that insures it's not wasted or thrown away. Not to give blindly, but to be involved as well.

Some people need to read and learn the "Bill of Rights" in the Constitution of the United States. The Right to keep and Bear Arms. It's clear today as the day it was written, and no it wasn't for just White Men. It was for all Citizens of this Country no matter what shade of skin, sex, religion or culture. It's one of our basic rights, and one I'm not willing to give up. Just for the one writers knowledge I do have a few firearms. Rifles, Pistols, Shotguns, and some in Black Powder as well. I also have Bows, Axes and Knifes. I'm not "White" and I don't belong to a political party. I have never been both.

Just so you know:

The following is a statement from President Barack Obama on the observance of Native American Heritage Day, Friday November 27.

Tomorrow, Americans everywhere will observe our National Day of Thanksgiving. It will be a time of celebration and reflection as we gather with family and friends to count our blessings and remember those less fortunate. But it will also be a time to remember how this holiday began– as a harvest celebration between European settlers and the American Indians who had been living and thriving on the continent for thousands of years.

That is why on Friday, I encourage every American to join me in observing Native American Heritage Day. My Administration is committed to strengthening the nation to nation relationship with tribal governments. But it is also important for all of us to understand the rich culture, tradition and history of Native Americans and their status today- and to appreciate the contributions that First Americans have made, and will continue to make to our Nation.

Bill Taggart suggests:

"How about using the northbound rest stop on Interstate 19 a few miles north of the proposed checkpoint site?"

I'm not personally familiar with the details on the border checkpoint, but his argument makes a lot of sense to me.

Re #4 Joseph M.
Perhaps you are not familiar with the area. The rest stop on I-19 has two frontage roads that go around it. These frontage roads would also require inspection stations of their own. When you get that far north there many more ways around the check point than there is at Agua Linda road where the present check point is. At Agua Linda both frontage roads stop for a short section to the south. This creates a bottle neck forcing all traffic onto the freeway and through the check point.

Wow, the Cushing St. bridge is vital to the growth of downtown. I'll tell you whats vital to the growth of downtown, money and vision. There is no money and no vision. The vision of which the writer speaks is long since dead. Let't start with removing the diagonal parking on Broadway so more than one car at a time can get downtown. Lets clearly mark what is public parking and what is not. Its always a real joy to eat and then come back and find your car has been towed. How about getting rid of the transients downtown. How about cleaning up downtown. How about working with the merchants in place now to dress up their stores rather than evict them so that someone with more money can have their space. How about an arena downtown so that people can see athletic events and host large conventions. There needs to be something downtown to draw people and business there. Currently there is not and the "bridge to nowhere" is not needed at this time. Its not my problem that the writer chose to live in that area. So why now do the resources that are supposed to be for the whole city need to be spent for his sole benefit.

Something to remember as you read the morning newspaper and think you know what is happening in the world:

Of 237 countries and territories in the world, the 4 largest newsgathering and distribution companies that supply the world with 90% of news do not cover 116 of them.

These 116 countries or territories contain 4 billion people -- more than half the world's population.

Ross: I'm not really one of the 'gun crowd' altho I do own a .38 special handgun for person safety. I also target shoot at the range when I can.

By the way, I'm a 71 year old grandmother. I do believe, however, that anyone should be able to own a gun if they can pass the FBI background check. I know, the gangbangers and criminals will always find a way to get a gun and use it. There's always a flaw in any system.

I think the anti-gun crowd lets their emotions get the better of them and then the 'gun crowd' suffers all the ranting and raving.

Just my opinion.

You fools may one day be thankful these militias should the power hungry mob in Washington (that has been acruing power since Clinton, and continued through that fake repug Bush) continue to erode our rights and negate the checks and balances system that the 3 branches of federal government were designed to have under the US Constitution.

The Second Amendment was written because the Founding Fathers of this country understood that an armed citizenry might be all that keeps those who would ignore the Constitution from seizing absolute power.

Our military is the finest ever according to certain Generals of today.

This would mean that today we have a military better than that of world war 2. This is laughable.

We are in a war in Iraq and Afghanistan which we don’t belong. Al Queda has moved and will keep moving until we taxpayers go broke moving from country to country with them. Casualties are not even what we lost in a few weeks. On top of that it is costing a million dollars a man sent to Afghanistan.

And I am accused of being nuts for wanting to bring our troops home and creating a system where men who fight get more credit than those who don’t.

In 1978 our politicians took us off the gold standard Since then Japanese yen has reduced from 360 to 1 dollar to less than 100, Within a few years it will be 1 to 1. This means little to the yen but everything to the dollar.

I doubt I will be here when it happens but my kids will and so will most of you. Good luck.

I believe that, too. However, NightHawk wrote that he believes every American citizen should be able to own a gun. He didn't exclude the crazies and the criminals.

Incidentally, the FBI just checks on what the Congress told them to check. Many in the gun lobby would take that power away from Congress.

It was Richard Nixon in 1971. The yen indeed was 360:1 in 1971; by 1978 the rate was 210:1.

I am not sure of the date that we went off the gold standard. You may be correct. But in any event it showed that our economy was ruined.

I left Japan in May of 1978 and we were still getting 360 to the dollar. But it wasn't long before it started dropping.

I sense many of these militas have the dream that taxes will be raised more than 500%, private property will be nationalized, that the whining unworthy poor will be placed in power and that a host of unholy acts will become common place.

So, their plan would be to take power as the national guard and regular army would leave their posts and join the cause in purifying the country. This however would lead to a return of the black ages as the country and sense of order would be broken into tiny bits

Heck, didn't Pelosi determine that the "TEA paries" were simply an astro-turf excuse for getting out and threatening the dolts in D.C.?

I really wonder how many of the Obama-supporters are wondering how everything has gone wrong with this country - not exactly the change they had envisioned.

However, when I cross over into the People's Republic of Berkeley East, in central Tucson, I still see a lot of proud Prius and Subaru, single occupant cars, 9 times out of 10 a greying hippie female.... still holding onto their Marxist leader's bumper stickers...

...........................................

I like your circle already!

Anyone who opposes far left liberalism is my kinda
person.

I think it is conservatives who best understand the dream of Dr. King and that is as simple as understanding that I should like or dislike you based on whether or not you have qualities I find attractive. If you are a dweeb type whiner, I should be able to dislike you regardless of your race, or if you like to drink beer and watch or participate in team sports, I should be able to share your company, regardless of your race and if you are just simply an idiot that is full of him or herself, I should be able to avoid you like the plague, regardless of your race.

You and I should be able to pick our friends and those we choose to spend time with, without regard for their race and not have to worry about offending anyone based on a preconceived definition of what is politically correct interaction amongst races.

You and I should have the freedom of accepting people based on our own litmus test of acceptable behavior and reject people who don't pass our test.
As a white male, I would much rather spend the day with men of whatever non white race, who enjoy the world of athletics, sarcasm, well thought out arguments and the occasional "cold one" versus
a white dweeb who has no concept of what actual race relations entail.

Sermon's over, go Wildcats beat the Scumdevils!

Just like under your Freedom of Speach you can't yell fire owning or using a firearm has controls as well in this Country. Most adults know this. Of course this is another reason why I said some people should not only read, but learn about our Bill of Rights.
