The children's medical center is named for developer Don Diamond and his family. As plans for the UMC children's hospital were nearing completion, Diamond and his wife, Joan pledged $15 million. The donation was particularly meaningful for the couple because their daughter, Deanne, died of asthma in 1971, when she was 14.
And this is the guy the lefties like to kick around. I suppose the library system that Carnegie created should be torched as well as all the other institutions built by private foundations. I know, the government can do better, like the government of Zaire.

#1 you are right. Don Diamond has been an asset to Tucson. He has given himself and his wealth to local causes.
He is also a good businessman that the left loves to trash.

The political comments are not appropriate or welcome here.
UMC's Children's Hospital Expansion and TMC's pending Children's Hospital Expansion are probably two of the most important positive developments in our community right now.
Let's thank the individuals, organizations, small and large businesses who had the courage and intelligence to put their various political differences ASIDE to unite for the community to accomplish this achievement.

I hope there is a restroom somewhere near the new neonatal intensive care unit. When my son was there for several days after his birth, the closest one was a long walk away, especially since I was recovering from a c section. Thanks to the Diamond family for headlining the fund raising for such a great addition to the hospital.

Christine, I rather like the political comments which remind us how some love to bash the producers, but are happy to be on the receiving end when the money is handed out. Don Diamond, Jim Click and many other business people in our community have done much to improve the Old Pueblo while the anti-growth, anti-business, big government crowd have just stood in the way.
Thank you Don for sharing the wealth, Voluntarily! We don't need Obama's sock it to the successful, redistribution schemes.

Bill R: I stand by my previous comment.
Mr. and Ms. Diamond's contribution is an act of public service to Tucson.
Their personal reasons are theirs alone, and it is not appropriate for me or anyone else, to attempt to turn this expansion of children's hospital services in Tucson into a commercial for capitalism.
Mr. and Ms. Diamond could have donated that 15 million to the Republican Party, instead.

Hmmmmm
Fund raising?
So this is a philanthropic endeavor?
And the Drs will have salaries capped at something reasonable like 80k?
Not

Just a heads up! When dealing with UMC you only have 120 days to file a claim against any doctor there since it is a teaching hospital.
