UPDATED: Comcast offers $10 credit to Tucson customers who saw Super Bowl porn

Comcast believes the pornography that interrupted its feed of the Super Bowl Sunday night was the result of foul play, a company spokeswoman said Monday morning.

Yes, they did. I had two teenagers and a 10 year old watching the game with me and they all saw every graphic segment of it. What on earth is Comcast doing? I can't believe I pay them.

This was a local problem as I talked to family that lives in Colorado, Cali, Ohio and Phoenix. This was disgusting and heads should roll. Not sure if Digital or Cox subscribers got the feed, but I would love to have someone come and explain this to my first grade students tomorrow! I am canceling my Comcast subscription tomorrow and I hope that all the other Comcast members do also.

It was really weird. I thought at first, awww, whet are they doing , thinking it was just an edgy commercial that the Superbowl is known for.

Then it was clear that something was really wrong as the guy stood up and everything was there, yes, everything.

Pretty wild. We called folks in Phoenix and it apparently was not there in Direct TV or Cox so it may have been a Comcast hack.

OMG! I am SOOO angry about this. I don't think I will be watching the super bowl anymore. I had just called my teenaged daughter in to have her watch the replay of the last play. And then that comes on. I am furious. And it kinda kept you watching cuz you were thinking, 'ok, this HAS to be part of a really bad commerical'. But no. I am soooooo angry! Uncalled for and ruined the game.

A little before the porn, there was also another hack showing the end credits apparently for some movie. Scrolling white letters on a dark gray background. We talked with someone out of state, as well, and both appear to be local to Comcast.

My 13 daughter got an eye full. Why was it hacked a second time? Wasn't the first enough to alert Comcast techs to their problem?

It was pretty bad. A Keith Urban-type guy is sitting down, and there's a woman next to him and she appears to have her hands down his pants. Then he gets up, and his pants drop, and there's a full reveal. It happened right after the Cards' last touchdown, so I wonder if there was a hacker/steelers fan on the loose at Comcast.

Do they not have safeguards to keep this kind of nonsense from happening? Did anyone notice that about 10 minutes or so before the porn clip cut in there was a cut out to credits rolling that looked like the end of the same type of film. I was lucky enough not to have children watching with me, but I know lots of you did. THIS IS INEXCUSABLE!!!!!!!!!

This is an absolute outrage, and comcast has some explaining to do. We called comcast and asked why this happend and the answer was "we know"! This is absolutely ridiculous. Hot dayum! I was recording Super Bowl game highlights and commercials and was in the process of switching cameras when THERE IT WAS. Absolutely astounding.

Fortunately I caught the last half of the clip. This is historic.

The game was better than expected too -- an evening well-spent I'd say.

As for the ostensibly "alarmed" viewers, they say they were "shocked, simply shocked" as well they might be, but they didn't miss a second of it I'm sure.

As for the kids, well, it all depends how their parents have prepared them for reality. Ignorance, like Abstinence, fails to produce healthy minds.

This is going to be a great story. I'm sure the ASD has got a squad of Internet reporters tracking down the facts even as we speculate.

For all of those who are saying "get over it" ...This was not just male nudity. This was highly sexual, raunchy and inappropriate. I can explain away basic nudity to my 8 year old daughter, however sexual situations like this one was will take more explaining than should be needed at her age. And to #58: whether the adults of a household choose to watch porn has no bearing on exposing children to it during a "family event" . I'm not a prude, just a parent. I live in Oro Valley and saw the porn tonight. Shocked me as I couldn't believe what I was watching. Twice the game was interrupted. Once with what looked like credits for a movie that had just finished and the porn show with 5 minutes left in the game. I called friends in WA., NC., and OK., and they didn't see the porn, so it must be local.

Did any of you watch the pilot, that landed the plane on the Hudson River, give his speech in his home town? During that whole thing, you could hear a man and woman talking off camera. It didn't sound like they were there, but in a room by themselves. Couldn't quite hear what they were saying, and it was very distracting to listen to the people praising the pilot. I bet that was a local thing too. Someone is pushing the wrong switches.

Boump-chicka-boump-boump - only thing missing was the cheesy 70's music in the background.

Okay...I have a 13 year-old daughter who was in the room. Am I the only one that was smart enough to realize that there was something amiss?? I stood in front of the TV and told her to get out of the room. For all of those who say there was not enough time "to grab the remote and change the channel" my kid was out of the room before the pants came off!

Yes teenagers are one thing, but my 4 year old niece was watching with my mom. Luckily we were on the phone at that time and I was able to warn her to cover my niece's eyes. There are a lot of families that have small children as well as teenagers.

I got a recording of the movie credits break-in too, so there might be some clues in that. I agree that it most likely was a test run.

Very impressive work. Big Brother has a Little Brother to steal his thunder. That's good news, you know, even though a bit unsettling. The Government does NOT control the media, and neither does the media.

Now if our video hijacker could do that to a popular Al Jezeera broadcast of a beheading, wouldn't that be a media coup! Think about it.

Nudity is the absolute antithesis of Murder, Mayhem, and Authority. Arab Muslim TV viewers would go absolutely catatonic over it.

Christian fundies don't much like it either, for more or less the same reasons.

Don't know if anyone noticed the rolling movie credits that were broadcast during what was seemingly a commercial break, but it was pretty suggestive of the next bombshell to drop. Was watching the game with my wife, 6, 10, and 13 year old kids when the 30 second "pornomercial" came up, or should I say "out". It was all i could do to get my hands over my younger daughters eyes. This certainly pales in relation to Janet Jackson's "Nipplegate". I'm sure someone was pranking Comcast, and surely someone's head will role. It certainly created quite a stir of gaffaws and laughter all around. Everyone in the Ventana CC dining room was going to leave prior to the commercial, afterward everyone decided to sit around and wait for the "sequel" :-)

We saw it too...first the movie credits that cut in for a few seconds and then the pornographic clip that we certainly did not give Comcast permission to show our 13 year old daughter. We want an explanation and if it's a Comcast issue, we're moving on and discontinuing our service. I had to yell across the room to tell my daughter to cover her eyes and then look at the horrified look on the face of my Dad's wife! Not even one bit funny and it does appear that it was only a Comcast issue. Just watch a recorded version of the game. It's all there. I hope they find out who did this!

I completely agree with #110. People are talking about cancelling Comcast, but that would put A LOT of people out of a job for no apparent reason. People need to just calm down about this whole situation. It's really immature to blame the cable company for this.

Okay, I recorded the whole game and without any time for edit the DVD I just used my digital camera in Video mode and captured the seconds from the computer screen. Mind you that as soon as I figured that this is NOT a new commercial, I flipped the channels. So you'll see some porn and some channel flipping until it was over.

And just in case you were wondering, 3:05 minutes before the end of the game there was a clip of the ending of a movie generated by ClubJenna.

Obviously, I can't speak for everyone who is upset about this, but personally I am upset not because I've never seen anything like this, and not because I think anyone's going to be permanently damaged - I'm upset for the same reason I was upset about Janet Jackson's stupid stunt: there are few enough places and things that our children can enjoy without parents worrying about what they're going to be exposed to. We should be able to watch a sporting event with our children without having to be braced to spring into action with the remote should something pop up on screen that should have been safeguarded against in the first place.

When I saw the first hack of porn credits (JennaTV or JennaVision?) I knew something bad was going on (everyone's heard of Jenna Jameson, the porn actress, from interviews, etc.). I started talking about how I'd never seen a hacked signal before which had the kids' attention. Then the scene with the intimate male and female came on and I had to start yelling at the kids to get out of the room. My remote doesn't work well and it was the best choice. My blood pressure went to the moon just as the male's penis filled the TV screen and I was yelling at the kids to get out! They were quite scared and it took about 30 minutes of explaining to get them to understand that I wasn't mad at them, but was only trying to protect them.

This hack, especially coming in a second time, and even more profane, is inexcusable. I need an apology from Comcast to show to my kids so that they can understand what happened.

Comcast needs to step up to the plate and explain this to the children.

The great unwashed majority in the world is going insane.

We have people calling themselves "green" when they hate and fear the single most important compound in Nature that makes green things green, Carbon Dioxide.

We have other people calling themselves "family friendly" when they are not the least bit friendly to the basic means by which families are made.

Others are proud of "education" when in fact they measure ignorance as more important.

I don't think Comcast had anything to do with this. That apparent "test" break was a clue. If that had been a studio error they would have been on it so it couldn't happen again.

It looks like somebody figured a way to hack into the Comcast cable system since from what people are reporting here it didn't go out over the air.

The episode didn't teach vulnerable kids how to make suicide belts or how to launch RPGs or operate Kalishnidovs, so it wasn't all that bad. It was merely a high profile nuisance over which heads would roll if the perps were to become known.

We should be thankful it was not worse.

Comcast should be able to find the vulnerability in their cable system, a hardware version of the software flaws that Micorsoft fights every week.

Was it an accident? Yes

Are your kids going to remember it more because of what they saw, or their parents making a big deal out of it? I'd say the latter.

Parents, you need to realize your children will retain random information for a few minutes, however all of you acting out in front of them is worse.

Stop blaming television incidents your children's problems, blame your actions enforcing exactly what you are trying to prevent.

I find it funny that people think nudity is horrendous. If you have kids over the age of 10, chances are they are looking it all up online....Behind your back. The Human body is a beautiful thing, yet people still find it disgusting. If God wanted us to think the Human body was disgusting, he would not have made it so beautiful.

Now does that mean that I think it was appropriate? Not at all. People pay for cable, and when they watch a program they expect it to be what Comcast says it is. Should the people who did this be caught? yes. Should comcast be blamed? no. Did your children see something horribly sinful? Absolutely not.

Can you say: "disgruntled employee"

This was done intentionally. About five minutes previously I noticed that the credits for a porn movie were rolling on my TV screen.

Someone with technical skill and access to Comcast equipment will turn out to be the culprit.

Ironically this feed usually goes to luxury motels and hotels.

Most people don't have a clue that AT&T is now the worlds largest porn distributor.

AT&T - Comcast

AT&T's cable division, AT&T Broadband, distributed to subscribers the explicit porn channel, The Hot Network. But At&T sold its cable company and its connection to pornography to Comcast.

For AT&T porn distribution had been great business, but there was no mention of adult material in the company's annual report, nor how much it contributed to the company's bottom line

Comcast is extremely sorry for the interruption of the Super Bowl programming with a “signal malfunction” that briefly showed a portion of after-hours adult programming intended for a paying audience.

As you may imagine, we are distressed by this free preview of paid programming and as a result, you will find a small service charge adjustment in your next bill for this erroneous airing.

Definitely a local problem with Comcast only, according to news stations. Fortunately, my father-in-law caught on to what was happening, and we were able to cover my five-year-old's eyes before she saw anything graphic. We had recorded the Superbowl, and later we watched the tape because we didn't believe what were seeing. Sure enough, it was there and did not leave anything to the imagination. Comcast is going to lose some big business after this goof!

Start burning your cable boxes you bunch of ridiculous drama queens! Maybe you should never drive again if someone flips you off for cutting them off... Oh the vulgarity of it all! It was a mistake and a prank, let it go and teach your kids versus freaking out... Maybe that will get them to respect sex and not use it as a way to get back at you and your oppressive ways!

Some mainstream corporate giants, allured by immense profits, have reached a new low

trying to reach a new high on Wall Street

*Profiting from porn-peddling is a dirty ring around the
white collars at AT&T, MCI, Time-Warner, Comcast, Echo Star Communications, GM’s
DirecTV, Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton, Radisson, VISA, MasterCard and American Express*

Porn doesn't just exist in some back alley anymore.

Some of the high rollers involved will probably be getting bail out money.

AT&T has a patent on the only equipment that can broadcast porn in high definition.

I can't believe there still isn't any comment on either Comcast's or KVOA's website. It wouldn't be that bad if they would at least aknowledge that it happened and there working on it. I had two kids 9 & 4 watching it in the room. I luckily caught on pretty quick after the first hack of the jenna jameson channel, and turned off the set. But it still seems that there should have been some major security set up for the highest watched show of the year. I am in full support of the parents totally outraged. I understand that there are far worse things on T.V. for children to see, I actually do watch the content of my kids television and they don't watch violent or sexually explicit things at home. So I do not think that we are in any way whining, and yes mistakes happen, but in the climate we are all living in it would be nice to know that SOME things are safe.....

Just so everyone knows. Comcast numbers are blocked and the open chat is a waste of time, all they say is they are sorry for the incident. Doubt anyone will get anything out of it. If comcast paid out to the 80,000 customers in this area they would probably go under like everything else.

We also were affected by this. It was totally obvious that it wasn't a commercial-to the handful of adults in the room anyway. We had 2 small children with us watching the game. However, there was MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME for us to switch the channel before they saw too much. That doesn't excuse Comcast.

This will put Tucson on the map in the national news tomorrow.

We can be proud...unhh, maybe that isn't quite the right word for it...'cause it wasn't exactly proud, it was, well... stay tuned for the denouement.

How many of our astute viewers are erasing their DVDs even as we speak? Far fewer than the "alarmed" comments would indicate I trow.

"Shocked, simply shocked" Lordy lordy.

Maybe Comcast should be a kindly nanny and take their DVDs away in brown paper wrappers. Otherwise those DVDs are going to be EVERYWHERE for years and years and years. Imagine that the most exciting Super Bowl game in history right there in your own DVD file, waiting to be replayed or copied by your neighbor who missed the game.

I'd guess the hypocritically shocked citizenry outnumbers the genuinely shocked citizenry by at least two to one.

All of the ultra-shocked are making the episode into a lifelong memory for their innocent children by their irrational behavior.

Meanwhile on other channels people are being hacked up, spit out, chewed up, run over, shot a million times, blood and guts splattering all over the place, heads chopped off, people being beaten either in organized fights or just plain beaten to death, wrestlers body slamming, smacking other wrestlers with steel chairs and ladders, kids in the audience cheering as stupidly as their parents, body parts flying all around and do your kids watch that? You bethcha! You don't mind your kids when that's on. Why T.V.'s the best baby sitter there is. Gratuitous violence is the biggest money maker we got going! More blood and gore! More blood and gore! Based on the information that has been released and the content being shown, it sound like this was deliberate hacking job and not the result of an internal error. Not that I care at all about a crooked company like Comcast, but it's much better to wait for an official investigation of what happened then to jump on the blame train. But do you seriously think Comcast of any of it's employees would do something like that on purpose?

OK ......to all of you who think that our reactions as parents are creating more of a memory by our behavior I ask you this...how am I making this a huge deal to my two children who have been in bed since 8:30? I simply turned off the tv. and told them it must not be working. I even had the gumption as a parent to talk to my older son about enough of what happened as to prepare him for the onslaught I'm sure he'll recieve at school tomorrow from his peers, I also had the foresight to tell him I am here if he has any questions. Just because I am a parent and I am alarmed DOES NOT mean that I am hopping around trying to blame someone for all of my kids problems. I am simply upset that Comcast was 't able to prevent the probably 13 year old hacker from introducing full on porn to my 4 year old!

Hope they find whoever did it if it was intentional and charge him/her with a couple thousand counts of indecent exposure to a minor. It's also against the law to expose children to porn, so guess there are several thousand more charges. If it's an adult - lock him/her up. Some of you really need help. I think that football and organized sports is an appropriate way for men to vent their testoterone. It's beter than beating each other with sticks. I don't expect my kids to live in a bubble, but I do pay attention to what they are viewing, including violence. And no one in their right mind can say this is acceptable for a child to view. Sex is not a dirty thing, nor is sexuality. But objecting children to explicit pornography is something entirely different!!!!

First, Comcast is to blame. I doubt it was someone at Comcast who did this, but the fact is that they had a solid five minutes to act after it was hacked the first time and they failed. Unless I find some compelling evidence that they were trying really hard to figure out what the weakness was and failed, Comcast should have stopped it and failed. I'm sorry, but you can't even swear on TV.

Another thing--disregarding its content, it broke in at a really important part of the game.

I was watching this by myself so I wasn't around any kids, but I was just annoyed. It was so stupid and childish and I think if you believe that showing your kid 30 seconds of a porn is the same as sex education you're an idiot. It's not the same. If someone had showed me that while I was still trying to acclimate myself with the idea as a child, I would've panicked. Something like that can be really terrifying for a kid.

Mostly, I just think it was tacky and classless. There is a reason that there are standards for TV, and I think they should be more lax in a lot of cases. But this is nothing like discussing sex or swearing. It is illegal to show this sort of thing to someone under the age of 18, and you should be allowed to make the decision if you want to anyway. It should never be just sprung upon somebody and I hope whoever is responsible spends a pretty hefty and ridiculous amount of time or money to pay for freaking out kids in a way that a lot of them WILL not forget. Like I said, if I'd seen this as a 10-year-old, I would have panicked.

Do you people HONESTLY think that Comcast didn't do everything in their power to prevent this? Even if they noticed the firsst clip right away, don't you think that their programmers/techies/whatever would have been able to resolve the issue in less than 5 minutes?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being upset and angry with this whole ordeal, but being angry at Comcast is completely misguided and immature. Yes, you pay for their service, and yes, you have a right to recieve the best service possible, but mistakes happen. We are only human, as are the fine men and women who work for Comcast. Nobody is perfect, and I applaud the efforts of Comcast's employees to have the video clip stopped after only a few seconds.

Number 233 is right and this incident was clearly wrong. But there does seem to be a clear inconsistency in the attitude of parents and people in general when it comes to a graphic display of something of a sexual nature 9llok how upset people get) whereas a graphic display of gratuitous violence as in kids viewing wresting matches cheering right along with their parents as wrestlers use metal objects to beat each other, that's perfectly o.k. in this culture. There are no laws or statutes against that. And perhaps that point belongs in a different discussion but there seems to be a pernumbra of relevance. Amazing though that this could even happen and technical safeguards don't exist to prevent it.

The same kids that saw this got on their lap tops in their rooms... logged on, found the clip emailed it to their friends... text'd their friends and laughed about the looks on the parents faces for about an hour, then popped in some Grand Theft Auto IV and slughtered a video game version of strippers, whores, and any other random video game being. Then went on myspace and mocked other children for being losers.

Yeah, a little porn tipped the scale...

And those of you on your 'high' horse that say it was no big deal I hope that you don't have any children of your own, becaue they are going to end up pretty sick and twisted. What you're calling overreactive parents are the ones that actually parent our children. The ones who do edit their TV and video games and internet. One computer in the living room, blocks set-up, with a parent watching where the kids is going because there is stuff like this out there. KIds are forced to grow up to fast asw it is. Check out the computer sometime when the spouse is away. There will be all kinds of stuff on there that your not suppose to find. Same with the email. Guaranteed.

So you saints that complain about the porn better hope your spouse doesn't find it on yours. All she needs is the password and she will see why you spend so much tme on the computer.

It is rather disconcerting to see so many negative ratings applied to those who take umbrage to the event. Certainly, this was the result of an employee who has a complete disregard for the responsibility given to him/her. While, apparently, it was technically feasible to insert Jenna into the most viewed event of the year, it was certainly not appropriate in our society. While I wouldn't say it is "Comcast's Fault", I also wouldn't hold them harmless for having the "keys to the kingdom" handed to a person who is capable of pulling off such a violation to the community's trust.

This story will certainly garner national attention. Hopefully, the comments inserted by the good people of Tucson will demonstrate a higher level of morals than the moron associated with this event.

I agree with #110:

"Blaming Comcast is pointless. Why on earth would they have done this on purpose?! Please don't put another company out of business and create more job losses because some jerk can hack. This is terribly unfortunate and I have to explain to my daughters that all penises are not the same, but Comcast is not to blame."

Even IF a Comcast employee did this on purpose maliciously or as a joke, that means that a number of you are going to end your cable service with the entire company?! There are enough people out of jobs right now without making things worse. Making hasty decisions out of anger doesn't help the situation. There are MUCH bigger things to think about in the world...put things in perspective. Any of you who had children watching - it's not like your children were abused, they saw a PENIS! If everyone put this much energy into taking action to help others get food, clothing and shelter instead of complaining about a few seconds of TV, the world would be a lot better off.

LOL 287

Its actually this attitude that is what is making america what it is now. Great that your husband fought for the country. Not arguing the service that he did. But....how is that relevant to this whole situation. Everyone wants to one up everyone else. Thats exactly what you just did with that comment and more then likely what the person who hacked Comcast did. They probably wanted to show off and prove they can one up someone else. Just on a little side note...I'm pretty sure your husband didn't go fight for this country so when an idiot hacks a computer system everyone can complain about how its traumatizing their kids so they can get free month (not saying you stated that but it has been stated here) and how heads should roll so that the only thing that could come out of this is people in Tucson lose their jobs in an already bad economic time.

Seriously, anyone younger then 7 probably didn't get it and will be forgotten tomorrow, anyone older then 12 knows what it was and won't traumatize them in any way. Between 7 to 12 the boys will laugh about it on their lunch breaks at school and the girls will just say eww or ignore it ever happened.

Either that or you are saying that your child is not capable of getting through 10 seconds of their life without life altering consequences. I really hope you don't watch the news because they might hear about someone dying and then rush out and try to kill everyone they see.

Yeah it was wrong for that to air...but its not the end of the world...Comcast is the middle car in a three car pile-up. The car who hit Comcast is what caused it...poor Comcast was just too close to the car in front of them and bumped into them...Now that first car wants to sue them to oblivion.

Oh Anne Anne Anne, come down off of your high horse. My God, you are the most sanctimonious human being I've encountered all week.

Those of us who are sentient live in your little sanitized world and put up with your superstitious fear of sexuality, and the horror with which you regard, well, penises on your television. We put up with sanitized corporate radio because of you, sanitized unrealistic television, and sanitized unrealistic everything.

Pornography is not real. But it depicts a normal biological function and process - one many of us enjoy.

Simply for the shock and outrage so many of you feel at having to sit through (oh no!) a display of body parts - which is all this was - I will drink to this hacker - not for what he did, but for the pathetic reactions he pulled out of so many of you. While I cannot advocate disrupting broadcasting, I found the entire episode highly amusing.

I laugh openly and contemptuously at those of you who think building a sad little wall around your children will better prepare them for the pornographic and violent world in which we live. I remember quite clearly in college what shrinking little messes those who grew up in antiseptic little Christian households turned into when exposed to the reality of the human condition once they left home. Seriously, you better send your kids to the convent or something.

It is one thing to not expose your children to pornography - that's just rational parenting. It's another to freak out entirely at a display of human sexuality.

So a penis showed up on your television set. SO WHAT. That's how they got here. That's how you got here. All over Tucson tonight, people are doing similar things in their own bedroom, however much in denial you choose to be. And your kids? If they're 11 years old or older, they're watching pornography on the Internet. Maybe not at your house, but at their friend's house. They use profanity, are curious about sexuality, and know way more than you think.

There is violence, genocide, decay, famine, and blight all over the world, and this is what you choose to get worked up about - that your poor little stepford children, oh noes, saw Mr. Winkie.

I'm tired in living in your world, where you force your puritanical, superstitious standards on the rest of us.

And spare me the whole elitist, "Oh you just don't know what it is to be a good parent" garbage. I think teaching kids to fear sexuality does them a far more horrible disservice than seeing 15 seconds of a guy waving his penis around.

Seriously, you're shocked by the DISPLAY OF A HUMAN BODY PART. Do you not understand how sad that is?

As it seems I have become the easy scapegoat of overreactive parents everywhere I feel it’s only fair I say my peace first.
To those of you who have judged me from the past couple post read further. I have never said I want money or free anything from Comcast. What I would like is a statement from them, not other news channels, that it happened and what they are doing to make sure it doesn’t happen again. I happen to like the service they provide, and since I cannot get satellite or Cox( laugh it up) where I live, I am rational enough to know I am stuck with them or a converter box.
Secondly, my children were not exposed to the material so my views on pornography are mute. Sufficed to say I realize that as humans we are sexual being and do not condemn anyone for watching porn. Believe it or not my children do not live in a protective bubble. They are aware that one has a penis and one has a vagina. That’s what they are called too, not hoohaas or peepees. I have always stuck to the belief that kids are smart and you don’t have to protect them from their own sexuality. It should go without saying that I am not scared of either my children viewing a penis or for that matter a vagina. My problem is that thousands of children were exposed to something completely lewd and inappropriate. Sue me if I wanted to get a handle on what was being done.
Thirdly I only mentioned my husband’s service because of the fact that it is because of his and others service we are able to sit on our computers and argue about this. Also it addressed I thought the comment about them not seeing any news. Where do you think families get their information when a loved one is deployed? It is because of his deployment that my family has learned to appreciate the little things. My children have lived through more in their little lifetimes than they should have had to. All I wanted was to let someone know what happened, and to know what is going to be done. Don’t give me the crap that it’s the weekend and that there isn’t anything they could do. They could have issued a statement right away from their website. Don’t tell me there wasn’t anyone there.
It is not and has never been my intention to try to put Comcast out of business, or to blame the person I might reach on the phone. I am simply stating that they have not provided me with a good service, which is true. That I am not being a prude by saying porn for children is not ok. That’s why there are laws against it. I am simply stating that when I choose to watch a family show I should not have to go into an in depth discussion about sexuality. This is not just a little penis, (literally) this is an affront to what little is left of our children’s childhood. As I stated earlier they have to grow up to quick as it is, why add to that? Why is it so wrong to protect that?

This story is awesome. I want to move to Tucson now. Porn and Football what a great combination. Let's watch the Christian Nazi's go crazy now.

It's OK to let little johnny watch a violent game just cant view a bodypart. This country makes me sick sometimes. For you parents out there - your kids that are old enough to know what they were seeing, already watch probably much more graphic porn when you are not home. Get over it. The penis is not satan.

Jeezus people...

It was a hack. When you saw the random movie credits roll, that was a test by the person to see if it worked. After confirming it worked, he/she rolled the porn.

Hackers are much, much more resourceful than technical employees are. That's why many of the government's technical security are... You guessed it... Ex-felons from... HACKING.

If you're someone hoping to get a free month of cable because of this... Get a freakin' life. It was unfortunate, but not tragic.

Sheltering your children from something nature as sex will only harm your children later in life. Like I said above, if they are old enough to know what they were seeing on TV, they are already watching much more raunchy stuff online when you are not at home. I'm not condoning what Comcast did, but it was a harmless mistake, people should be losing their jobs over this. Especially since jobs are so hard to come by in this economy. Don't make someone lose a job because you live in the closet sexually.

Well Anne

Not going to argue with what most of what you say. The only thing that irked me about your posts actually was the fact you said something about your husband's service when it wasn't really relevant.

You said something I would like to address because I did a complete Sociology paper on the subject. You said that kids have to grow up fast why add to it.

We, as a society, has decided in the last decade or so that children are not capable of dealing with things.

When I grew up during summer vacation it was "its light outside...go play...see you for lunch" Today that isn't going to happen because something might happen to their child.

I had about as rough a childhood as anybody could ask for (family wise, and I have scars everywhere from stupid things I did) Thing is I now laugh at each scar that I have because it was stupid but it was fun and its what kids do.

Bad things happen every day, murder, abuse, rape, ect...What everyone witnessed today was comical compared to those things. Thats why I don't think its a big deal.

Again I don't think its appropriate at all but I am amused because it was obviously a joke. A sick and twisted one, but a joke. There was no malice involved...just a stupid prank. Comcast just happens to be the fall for this prank. I think people should let it go for that reason. A company is taking a fall for a prank and everyone is out for blood.

Now Anne I ask you this...if you don't get an apology...is tomorrow or the next day really going to be any different for you or anyone else who doesn't get it? Yes it might cause someone to feel they should switch providers but will it change the person as a whole? I hope not because they are the ones with the issues

I'm stunned that any of you with kids would even have cable in your homes, since you seem to care so much about how they might be influenced by television viewing.

The link between children watching violence on TV - cartoons, cop shows, wrestling (Ultimate Fighting anyone?), even the news - is associated with aggression and violence in young viewers. One Source

Those of you concerned about a 30-second exposure to naughty parts should look closely at your children's viewing habits and access to media violence before you get much more enraged. And don't trust V-chip technology to baby sit your kids and protect them from the thousands of violent and traumatic hours of television during their awake hours.

Casey,
I never said I wanted an apology, just acknowledgement of the situation from comcast, and what they were doing about it. Not from another source. I'm sorry you had it rough growing up, a lot of us did. And I have to disagree with you on the service part. It is an integral part of what has made my kids aware of the world as a whole. The deployment made my kids aware of a lot more than just that's going on in our little town. You explain as best as you can, but how do you explain away the worry of Daddy dying when he's over there. In some counry you can barely pronounce across the world. My children have not been sheltered from the violence of war, the pain of loss. Their part in it has just been different. Funny thing is, I am not that upset that porn was on the TV, just the total lack of response. I know that it was not done on purpose. But if I'm paying a company over $100 a month, they should be able to pay some damn hacker to proect the programming. That's all.

Anne,
I just meant that the argument of your husbands service when you used it was irrelevant to the argument.

I don't think Comcast could afford a hacker good enough to have stopped that right away...They work for the government.

Honestly Im just irritated people are trying to get free service out of something that if you think about rationally is no way their fault (as in Comcast didn't initially do this) Oh and I did state that I acknowledge you didn't ask for free month or anything.

Oh and I think we are on the same wavelength in a way...There are much worse things in this world for a kids to go through then seeing a penis. I do not have a child but I am pretty sure that I rather have my child seeing a penis then something about someone getting shot because someone tried to rob them...I guess I just don't see the big deal about a penis.

All the outrage. This came on while you were watching a sport that glorifies violence, that's filled with plenty of T&A shots of "cheerleaders," that has been known for its ads that limit women to nothing more jiggle shots. And this is what you call a "family event"? Constant female near-nudity is fine for your kids; a single shot of male nudity has you enraged. Hypocrisy really knows no bounds.

You know why my kids weren't watching? Because my son was in the bedroom watching something more age-appropriate and my daughter has no use for the sex-and-violence spectacle that makes up a "regular" NFL broadcast. (We won't even talk about the way people behave at the actual games. If you take your kids to an NFL game, you really should get a visit from CPS.)

That this is what you consider "family entertainment" says a lot about your values. Violence and constant implied sexuality on the sidelines is great for your kids. The real thing? Is "obscene" and "outrageous," especially if it includes male nudity instead of female nudity. Funny sense of morality there.

Taking a kid to a football game is now worthy of CPS?

I don't even have anything to add to that.

Question...so when they go to junior high or high school and they play dodgeball or you know a sport with some kind of contact does that mean you are bad mother for allowing this?

Seriously if your kids go to gym in junior high there should be an investigation

PS just in case you didn't get it, im being sarcastic because that was the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Since people act like idiots pretty much anywhere maybe you should lock your kids in their room so they are subjected to it.

Yeah actually I was watching it on Dish so I missed the show....Kicker is the girlfriend (who was watching it with her little sister and brother) sends me a text after the touchdown that says "did I just see what I think I did?" (and since I am a Cardinals fan and she loves to rip my teams I was assuming she was making a sarcastic remark about my team taking the lead) I then went on to call her many names that actually probably what she saw way better then the purpose of me calling her these things (jokingly of course) She had to call me to explain and to be completely honest I busted up laughing (then again her siblings aren't that young)

Well people, looks like it made National AND International news already (Germany).

On another note, I am the mother of 5 ages ranging from 14-20 and this was an extremely unfortunate inappropriate, and awkward moment, BUT also an important moment for my kids to view how I as the parent, handled this situation. THAT is where the real learning is taking place. #251 you have the best response I read about all night. Fortunately we watched Comcast in HD, but I did see the clip on youtube when it was up, (without the kids present)and I probably would have blew milk out of my nose or something stupid like that if it happened on my big screen. I keep things light. Teenagers tend to respond and open up more with laughter than anger. At least that is what has worked for our family. Laughing about something such as this SITUATION, (not the porn) can spark a quite open and candid family conversation versus anger and panic which will have the teen shutting down and then going to friends the next day to talk and joke about it at school WITHOUT YOU Please remember I am referring to my TEENS about this and not a younger child.

#290, thanks for saving me the trouble of typing a lot of text. Very well said!!

#315, you hit the nail on the head!! This was a great "teachable moment".

And they wonder why so many people have body issues!! Parents, kids feed off of your reaction. If you freak out and act humiliated, then they get the idea that one's naked body is something horrible, and something to be ashamed of. And, kids may be more likely to look for that big thrill of looking for porn and thrill of sneaking something "forbidden." If you act casual and say something like "yes, yes, that was a penis. Men have them. Big deal." You would then be able to have a conversation and say that while sex is a normal activity, it's always done in private and amongst grownups. You would have a big teachable moment in which to share your views/beliefs about sex and porn. "It's only done in marriage", "while sex is natural, I don't think movies should be made about it", etc. would be much more accepted by children/tweens/teens if you're calm about the situation.

And for the record, I'm a parent and while we have Directv, I wouldn't have freaked out if it did flash on our tv. I'm determined that my child not grow up with body issues. Being a parent isn't for the faint of heart, and you always have to be ready for that teachable moment. Yes, sometimes even during football games!!

And big kudos to those who pointed out the irony that violence is okay in our culture, yet a naked body is horrible.

No free month of cable and no silly little little letter from the company patting you all on the head after the big bad tv showed your little snowflakes what male genitals look like!

Not only do I have no sympathy for anyone taking offense here but I'm actually glad it happened. I am thrilled that a bunch of people got an unexpected D*** in the face. This is hilarious and things like this should happen more often! I hope next time it's during the view! Maybe some parents will have a talk about real life with their children now or heaven forbid, teach them to read but honestly, you should not find it awkward to talk about this sort of thing with your kids. They won't find it awkward at all tomorrow in home room with their friends.

Just think, the cardinals first ever trip to the superbowl. This is something to remember for us Arizonans and now, that memory comes with unexpected d*** in the face! It's a superbowl miracle!

As a parent and a consumer, I'm outraged, but comment #46, hilarious.

There's no way this was an "accident". This had to be a person who thought it would be hilarious to do something like this during the most watched sporting event in the country. Probably made him/her feel powerful.

Re: 334

How is your 8 year old daughter harmed? Will she not be attending school today? Is she sitting in the fetal position, rocking and sobbing uncontrollably? Or was it you that was harmed? Will today not be a pleasant one for you? Are you going to spend all day with this image in your mind or will you manage to get by? I think your point is invalid. You and your daughter are fine and in no way damaged by this.

There are real problems in this world that need to be addressed. Sex has been around since that dawn of time and your crude notion that this is obscene is part of a common social affliction that you're already trying to perpetuate in the next generation. Shame on you for that!

I hope that this happens more often. I hope it happens so often that everyone becomes desensitized to it and no longer cares.

Heard of a woman that was so upset about the nudity that she had her little kids switch to "Ultimate Cage Fighting" instead. Or the parent who had the kids switch to "24" where Jack was torturing people. Or to "Desperate Housewives" where they were just jumping from bed to bed and guy to guy. After all that's just wholesome entertainment.

Like most, we thought it was a commercial for the first second or two, but then realized the hack of the film credits earlier was probably a test for the second hack (or "accidental broadcast" of another "wardrobe malfunction".) Wonder if we'll ever hear if it was an accident or a hack? Anyway, interesting timing, with all the broadcast changes coming. And yes, you have to wonder how/why Comcast didn't realize they had a problem after the credits hack, or "accident".

Bottom line - yeah yeah, it was shocking and not what any of us expected, even with all the hoopla about both the game & commercials (why most of us kept watching til it was obvious it wasn't one) and I'm glad my teenage daughter wasn't in the room at that moment, altho she heard all about it. It WAS a good opportunity for some conversation tho - about why jerks hack, and create viruses, among other things.

But I have to say, she and I were both a little surprised at the Jack In The Box commercial earlier too. Seemed a little overboard in its own way, and we wondered how many little kids might have been a little freaked out about that one. Of course, as has been pointed out, if little kids were watching the game, perhaps the violence of Jack getting a cracked head from being hit by a bus is no big deal.

My husband, who isn't much of a "team sports" fan, believes the porn hack, while funny (to him), fits along with the overall criminal behavior of many sports figures. (His response to my outrage over Harrison's assault/foul too.)
Overall a historic game - in many ways.

I don't know what was shown, sounds like a BJ maybe. Yes, it is shocking, but I would not exactly describe it as horrific. Bodies of dead kids in a war zone seen on the news would be more of what I would call horrific. They guy who put a shock collar on his kids would be horrific. While shocking and unexpected, sex between a man and woman is simply inappropriate. I don't think that a kid will be scarred for life. Especially since when you think about it, that type of behavior would actually be acceptable when they are older and in a committed relationship and in private. I just think it is kinda ironic that we watch a fairly violent game for fun and get all offended by sex. No it is not appropriate, but it is not the end of the world either.

After reading all the comments here I am amazed by some of you. I know how easy it is to access porn on the internet and also on my TV if I so choose. I also know I can't always supervise what my 12 year old comes into contact with. However, when I turn on NBC to watch football with my son, I expect to see just that. FOOTBALL!. If I wanted to watch porn, I would subscribe to those channels, but I don't. When that little mishap occurred, I told my son that someone was messing around with the signal and hoped he had sense enough to turn his head. At which time he already did. No, my son is not sheltered from sex, but I also don't need to have him watch it because someone is a jerk and decides to screw around with hacking into the cable signal. (No pun intended). I found watching that stupid porn flick about as irritating as the godaddy.com ads where it told you to go to their website to view the unedited version of their ads that they had. I wonder how many parents/adults/kids are heading to their computers to see those ads fully on the website? There was a time where it was fun watching the Super Bowl for the new commercials, but this year was not one of them. Now I'll sit back and watch all the stupid people try to sue Comcast and waste taxpayers money in the court systems.

The worst thing that happened over the weekend to kids and young people was the sneaky, middle of night, and unnecessary budget cuts made to both K-12 and universities by the GOP controlled legislature. Some families defend their culture with knowledge, but most families, particularly religious families defend their culture with ignorance. They think that is "smart" but kids are often smarter, so the ignorance tactic is futile.

Still they try, even to making porn the 21`st century version of Witchcraft with burning-at-the stake penalties and "catastrophic" viewings with alarm.

Couldn't resist, could you? Are trying to say that there is something wrong with a teenager who ISN'T having sex?

Talk about ignorance and an unhealthy mind. It's one thing to say there is nothing wrong with sex, it is quite another to say there is something wrong with those who aren't having it. If this is the prevailing attitude among the public, THEN WHY IN THE WORLD ARE WE GETTING UPSET ABOUT A PENIS ON TV ANYWAY? After all, it's what all the little girls (and boys) are supposed to want.

A few comments.

First, KVOA's feed to the two cable companies was clean. They know this, because they record their feeds. So this happened at Comcast.

Turns out, this is not the first time this has happened to Comcast. This was no hack, just a mistake. People don't understand how cable TV works. There are no actual people there putting their broadcast together. You couldn't hack them if you wanted to. Computers put everything together. Sometimes the computers get confused, and begin mixing signals. Their timing gets off.

Since Comcast offers porn, if you want to pay for it, sometimes the porn gets mixed in. Sometimes other things get mixed in. The computers check themselves about every 30 seconds, so they fix these sorts of things pretty fast.

You can see this just about every day on the cable channel MSNBC. Often, when returning from a string of commercials to the regular program they will show you a few seconds of other material. Bits of other commercials, mostly, but sometimes other things. Their timing is off, and that's all it is.

You see, Comcast has a bandwidth load-sharing agreement with their rival cable provider. After the big Cardinals score, Comcast was running very low on bandwidth, and their Operations manager yelled across the room to the feed technician "Hey, can to switch over to Cox for 30 seconds?..."

The manpower they put into figuring out how much to compensate and who to compensate (after all, not every Comcast customer was tuned in) would be better utilized in finding the goofball who did this - and closing the hole in their system that allowed it to happen in the first place.

TV stations and cable companies have a fiduciary responsibility to serve the public. In the case of over-the-air TV stations it's actually written into law. They do this few ways. The easiest way to do this is simply throw up a little box once in a while which has the temperature in it. Theyv'e just served the public interest.

Another thing they do is have a local news show. Stations don't like to do this, because nobody watches them, and because of that they can't sell their ad space for much.

Even another thing they do is run a bit of educational content once in a while. They also run public service announcements (PSA's) telling you not to start forest fires and such. They usually run these in the middle of the night, when nobody is watching.

So, all Comcast did was run a
PSA, and it had some educational content in it as well.

I'll explain exactly how this works, and why it happened.

Radio, TV, and cable stations operate off of very complex set of timing signals. There are bunches of them. There are "hard breaks" which you have to take. Then you stick your commercials in there. They happen at about the bottom and the top of each hour.

In between every pair of hard breaks are usually at least two "soft breaks." You can stick your commercials in there too. You just need to know when they happen.

As an example, the radio host Don Imus broadcasts in Tucson. He's in New York. He is notorious for missing his soft breaks. So when he takes one, a computer in his station sends a timing code to the station in Tucson saying they are about to break. The station in Tucson starts to look for the break, because they are going to get another timing code right when it starts, telling them how long the break will be. Then the local station feeds it's local commercials, instead of those from New York.

This is all done automatically. There is actually a special computer sold to radio and TV stations which only reads timing signals. They all have one of those.

Since there had just been a big score, NBC probably sent a timing signal to KVOA saying they were about to take a commercial break. KVOA sent this timing signal to Comcast. Comcast wants these timing signals because then they stick in some of their own commercials.

NBC didn't break. They notified KVOA they hadn't broken with another timing signal. So KVOA didn't break. They sent a timing signal to Comcast telling Comcast they weren't breaking. Comcast missed it. It happens.

Comcast broke. Now they had dead air. Dead air is terrible for a station. It causes all sorts of technical problems, like resynchronizing their signals. So all stations have a computer which looks for dead air and when it finds it, it sticks "something" in there. In the case of a cable company, that will be some of its other programming.

In the case Comcast just picked a wrong "something" to stick in there. It never lasts for more than 30 seconds anyway, since that's the minimum amount of time it's incoming time signals release, and then take control again.

Others have mentioned it, MSNBC has mentioned it, and it's been written about previously. This is not the first time this has happened to Comcast-Tucson. It very well might be that their porn channel is the easiest one to latch when they need a signal. A simple technical problem, and an easy one to fix. I bet it now gets fixed.

I think that in your zeal to trash "ignorance" you are going a bit too far. In your comments on this thread today you have expressed the idea that practicing abstinence makes you ignorant and possibly mentally ill - just like all those "muslims and baptists."

SHOW ME THE DATA that backs up your ridiculous idea that promiscuity PROMOTES mental health!

Once again, I will say that there is nothing wrong with sex, or even teenage sex - other than the fact that most kids are irresponsible and ill-equipped to deal with the possible consequences.

I agree with you that repression can lead to issues down the road, but to simply assume that one is a puritanical basketcase because he isn't hosting "rainbow parties" is a bit off base, don't you think?

You are so right on with your analysis of the Tucson economy. Low life is not just the half of it. The past easy money in the real estate run up bubble was just too much for any real estate agent to exhibit the traits of honesty and integrity in dealing with clients. Lying, cheating, and stealing from the unsuspecting and the elderly was just standard operating procedure for the greedy to pad their bank accounts. Why just ask Fran Epsen, Pam Treece and Suzie DeConcini of Long Realty how they left their morals by the wayside when the almighty buck was in question.

God Tucson; you have “seen” your politicians lie to you like dogs, your sons and daughters slaughtered in distant land wars that have been waged for the expectation of cheaper oil, acts of people rendition and then followed by tortured in your name to third world countries, your civil rights eroded, your telephone and e-mails monitored by ATT&T/Verizon, your economy decimated by the thieves and frauds on Wall Street, foreclosure and home values eroded by help from your local real estate and mortgage companies such as LONG Realty and defunct First Magnus; and now, you are finally really and truly upset from the thought of having your holy day, Super Bowl Sunday moment visited by a mistaken thirty second clip from a “B” porn movie. Well thanks for finally waking up Tucson. Did you have a nice sleep? Why have the good people of Tucson waited until now to have an honest melt down moment with displays of indignant behavior about an issue that involves such a world important event like a 30 second sex mistakenly directed porn video? My.... my; will wonders never cease to exist. You need to relax your puritanical inhibitions Tucson.

But why Tucson did you not express such indignation for the more important past offenses that have truly affected our nation? Why did you not express righteous anger for the above offenses or when people have been losing their homes to foreclosure because of defective building, predatory lending and outright fraud? No worries! Just pretend that everything is okay.

Just one more thing:

There is a difference between teaching abstinence and PREACHING abstinence. Perhaps this is the distinction that has us at odds. Teaching someone that saying "no" can be as valid a choice as keeping a box of condoms in your purse is not ignorant. IMHO, it's far more sane than "Abstinence is Ignorance - don't listen to your momma, sex is goooood, here's how to use a condom, now get out there and have fun!!"

While I agree that the unscheduled porn sequence was inappropriate for most audiences, I'm more bothered by two other aspects of what I see in the comments posted here. First - sex and nudity are not the ultimate evil in the world. A thirty second glance will not destroy the minds of our youth. In fact, parents teaching kids that sex and nudity is evil will do more damage than the TV segment will.

Second, more disgusting by far than the nudity sequence is the unfortunately predictable reaction that so many people have expressed here today - "I saw something naughty! I'm offended! Gimme money, gimme free services, gimme something to compensate me for my imaginary sufferings!" Note that not one of the people above who felt somebody owed them something even suggested that what they needed was counselling, comforting or anything related to correcting the perceived damage/injury that was done. All they asked for was money, free TV, etc. The truth is that low-life types will happily look forward to "accidents" as means to get free handouts or prizes. Plenty of that attitude reflected in messages above.

Get a grip Tucson and you should all laugh at the righteousness of your hypocritical behavior. You choose to get upset about such frivolous things. They have been using sex to sell products on television since it was invented. Many of you are not as holy as you think you are. Who among you says grace at your table in the evening and then the very next day chooses to discriminate, steal and defraud in acts against your fellow man for profit?

Wasn’t it just a few years ago that you and the nation had another indignant melt down moment with the Janet Jackson planned commercial of titillation? Did you forget that your own Arizona Company, Go Daddy Inc., in wonderful Caucasian yuppie land of Scottsdale uses silicon enhanced breast as its main prop to sell web site domains names? Now how does a woman’s blown up breast to epic proportions, and electrons on a computer screen, have anything to do in common other than the use of a great number of atoms and electrons that are needed to offer such services; they don’t? Sex sells anything, at anytime, to anyone.

And then, how many of you went from your television to online to watch the next installment act after NASCAR dad snagging queen, Danica Patrick stopped showing her Go- Daddy enhanced breast; covered of course, except for the sneak peak look at the top of the heap for the obvious size enhancement operation? Ah... there is nothing like a tease.

No one asked you but since you decided to tell us. What a silly silly remark. Porn is absolutly friggin fantastic. Did you know that even in the tough economic times that we are in, the Porn industry is booming. Essentially DVD's were created because of the demand to sell porn movies.

I always laugh at people who say that porn is the devil and what not because usually they or their significant others have a nice hidden "box" of movies and magazines.

Did you know that silicone breast first clients were members of the adult entertainment industry and hookers? Personally I will take the natural breast any day over these inflated basketballs of bounce that could easily cause bodily harm to the user with back strain or blunt trauma injury for others unlucky enough to be in her way when an Italian show store goes on sale. But the question should be asked when medically science will begin increasing the size of the brain for both women and men and not just the size of women’s breast. But tell me, how many of you actually continued to watch the Super Bowl game after it ended to catch a possible glimpse of another mistaken identity 30 second porn preview wandering across the post game show involving Tammy does Tampa in a weekend? Now tell the truth.

If anything, this country is more uptight than ever with the idea of sex while the country continues to crumble and implode under the weight of its greed.

Actually, Comcast would have been better served by just showing five hours of free porn than a football game. I tend towards the classic porn myself. You could even combine the two. For example, "Debbie Does Dallas" very nicely combines women (who happen to be neekid) with football players (who also happen to be neekid).

You may not like this. Where do hotels make their money off of their pay per view services? From porn. What is the part of a cable TV company that makes the most money? Porn. What is the number-one moneymaker on the Internet? Porn. People like porn. Most of them, at least.

Nobody, adults, children, whatever, has ever been harmed by seeing 30 seconds of porn. Children will just forget it. Children younger than about 7 or 8 years old have exactly about 18 hours of short-term memory. They have already forgotten it.

Here's what happened here. When a cable station is facing dead air, they stick in other programming. The other programming they usually pick is the second most popular program being watched. Yesterday, most all people watching TV were watching the Super Bowl. The rest were watching porn. So, when the Super Bowl went dead, we got to see some porn.

And for those saying Comcast is at fault for "allowing" this to happen: EVERY TV STATION, MEDIA STUDIO AND CABLE SERVICE IN THE COUNTRY HAS HAD THIS HAPPEN AT LEAST A FEW TIMES. You just normally don't hear about it. It really is unstoppable, without applying certain checks and balances to the system. But doing that would make them slower to respond than Congress. That would be bad.

OK, I must admit...my jaw hit the floor. I then proceeded to laugh hysterically.

Unfortunately, until they put porn in a box (separate one) the chances of this happening again are pretty good. It would be very easy to just send out a cable box capable of picking up porn stations (to those who wish to view it) and a different one for people who wish to not have the evil temptation in their home. :)

It might be a solution for Comcast and other cable/satellite companies to think about vs the possible sanctions and out cries as seen here today.

All that being said, I might think that someone dropped the ball when it came to oversite of the largest viewed program every year. I can understand the uproar from people with younger children. Yet, I somehow feel these children will survive this catastrophic event. BTW, some of the commercials were just about as bad as the topic we are currently discussing.

And I do find it fascinating that mothers and fathers in Tucson who let their children watch thousands of images of murders, beatings and violence on television and the computer are the ones most likely to cry foul and are possibly the ones demanding to be monetarily compensated for there children seeing a thirty second image of a misguided, errant wang.

Please Tucson; get a grip on what is really important and not just your little world that contains church lady morals that are created and enforced around the Sunday television sermons of commercial Capitalism.

Here's an interesting note for younger readers.

Back in the day, and not so long ago, maybe 30 years, there was a hobby which sprung up. People just took over TV and radio stations. You could do that, because stations at that time didn't broadcast with much power (they all have powerful broadcasts today). You just needed a transmitter with a little more power than they had. Then you took over the part of the radio spectrum they were using. You could do this for maybe a few hundred dollars.

Once you did that, you could broadcast whatever you wanted. These were known as “clandestine” stations. Some of them did, indeed broadcast porn. Not most of them, though. Mostly they just broadcast test patterns over what the actual network was trying to broadcast. Sometimes they broadcast parodies. So instead of the “CBS Evening News” you would be getting “Kim's Evening News.” Kim's news was not at all the same as CBS's. You never knew, watching TV, when this switch was going to happen.

The networks were not at all amused by this. They called the government in. The government found them, and told them they couldn't be here. So they found another “here” to go to. The put their transmitters on ships, and parked them right outside of our territorial waters. So they broadcast from there.

Then an interesting thing happened. Viewers started calling the networks demanding that the clandestine programming be run, instead of the usual stuff. The networks just didn't like this at all. So they mostly put the clandestine broadcasters out of business. Although there are still a few, anchored off the east coast, mainly close to NY City.

There is a website, which I don't remember the name of, which posts video clips from the clandestine broadcasters. They are pretty good. Better than anything that network TV is going to give you.

Wouldn’t it be helpful because of the Tucson’s real estate and home construction meltdown crisis that the city is experiencing, Tucson could one day becomes know around the world as the porn capitol of the world because of your 30 second segment with destiny? Obviously, there are enough sleazy people from the real estate and home building industry that defrauded good families to fit right in so easily in this new endeavor. Integrity and honesty anchored individuals need not apply.

I'd think more people would be mad at the regular grease monkey ad that was shown (I even thought, "Oh, we are going to hear the religious radicals tomorrow on this one." Boy, was I wrong!!! Of course, I didn't realize what was 'about to happen' to comcast users.

I didn't get to see it until one of the above comments had a youtube clip on it. Funny stuff! I can imagine the gasps from viewers. But getting monetary compensation seems a bit overboard. You did have service. 30 seconds of interruption just doesn't seem that bad.

Actually there was a previous interruption to this porn channel earlier, only a few seconds. I saw the offensive interruption until I looked away. It seemed more than 30 sec to me, like more than a minute. Comcast will lose my business over this. But as disgusting as the incident is, the reader comments on this report laughing off the porn is even more upsetting, a sad statement about our city.

It truly is sad that porn on TV incites far more outrage, and discussion than any number of truly serious issues on this website.

We have economic shortfalls, budget cuts, stimuli, war, poverty, erosion of civil liberties, etc, but what really riles people up? A penis, on TV.

What does that say about us as a society?

Au contraire Kay 508, Tucson's truly appropriate humorous comments on the cultural incident last night are a sign that articulate intelligence is alive and well in Tucson Arizona -- that church zombies in moral lockstep haven't dominated the town's culture.

Arizona is NOT Kansas, thank God.

It is especially amusing that the local paragon of literary morality, Ch-4 KVOA of library censorship notoriety, takes a hit for this incident. Condign chastisement I'd say for a policy of censorship that is long of nose and short of brains.

YouTube has spent all day trying to delete video posts of “what actually happened.” They capture and delete them pretty quick. They employ a bunch of people to do this. Since these people aren't really making anything, only deleting things, they are a drain on our economy. We don't need them.

I saw the video, in a split second when YouTube let it through. Nothing anyone over about 15 hasn't done. And even then, it was only implied.

This is Obama's fault. He has a YouTube account. In fact, if you want to watch his weekly Saturday morning address, you are going to have to go to YouTube. He's thrown in with them, big-time.

Obama wants us all to be lewd, crude, lecherous people. That way we have more sex. Then he gets some more kids. Kids grow up to be taxpayers, which is exactly what he wants. More people to pay the bills we are creating even now, for our kids.

And that's sort of how these things work.

All these folks here complaining about last nights peep show probably have a nice collection in a "box" somewhere.

Porn is porn! Like it, Love it, Hate it...but do not tell me what I should think. And certainly do not call me a "sicko" or any sort of "perve" because I like to watch porn every once awhile.

In the U.S. as soon as you turn 18 years old you can watch, rent, make, and search the internet for porn!

I want to heart fully thank all concerned Tucsonans for the many comments that were made on both sides of this issue. No, no one wants unannounced and unwanted porn coming on your television sets at any time of the day but don’t you feel that it was just a simple mistake in switching content. Is it possible that many of the Christian right people took this issue a little too seriously? There is time to be born, a time to die and there is also a time to chill over issues that are obviously lower on the totem pole of importance in life.

Why did you not take the issue of death, dying and cost in Iraq with such interest? When Tucson consumers were being swindled by First Magnus and the construction industry, why did they not object when their neighbors were losing their homes to this fraud?
No one seemed to care and in turn the community began a slow death that will only accelerate in intensity. You cannot ignore your neighbor concerns and expect your society to continue in its past state of prosperity. Greed kills everything. But a thirty second porn slip and your ready to go to the mat and fight. I don’t get it.

My point is that there have been many issues that have failed interest the minds of the American people and Tucsonans in general. Why has there been so much interest in a sex flick hiccup when issues like a three trillion dollar war in Iraq, civil rights erosion, wire tapping Americans, banking bail out of Wall Streets crooks and frauds, illegal alien labor and the real estate and construction fraud that has continued to exist for years in the Tucson economy. Why now the concern for such superfluous issues? No one seemed to care when other people were getting shafted and pilfered, losing their homes and self respect while real estate prices climbed, but now everyone is experiencing the ambiance and effects of Capitalism darker side; destruction of capital and wealth because of the act of greed.

If you can get your dander up and write the FCC or your congresswoman about a thirty second sex issue, you can take the time to stay awake and writer or email these same people and others about the more important issues that are really harming you, your neighbor, your children and your grand children’s lives because the wolf is now upon yours and your neighbors doorsteps. If you all had been paying attention for the last eight years we would not find ourselves in the predicament that we find ourselves in today.

Sex issues should be the least of our problems during this perilous time in our history.

I'd better be careful here with friends watching. These local moral authorities ARE "bad guys" in the grimmest sense of the word, except only for the Kalishnidovs, RPGs and Suicide Belts, which does make a difference worth giving them some credit for.

Our culture such as it is, has become a laughing stock worldwide. Even Africans can laugh at us, though not too hard or too often. It's the Europeans who tick me off the most, because on a topic like this, they're right.

Have you noticed that nobody gets madder than when they've been called correctly in an unflattering position? That's us on this. Even Germans? ach!

In my opinion, #516 by my good friend Peter V. was one of his best comments ever.

One thing you have to realize when you read one of Pete's posts is he is a writer. A fairly good one. Now you and I are not writers. When we post something we sort of just write nonsense. When Pete writes a post he has thought about it some. He will deny that. But he has thought about it. And he's going to write it technically very well, and very clean.

In #516 Pete is writing on three levels. Good writers do this. As an editor, I can see it. He's going to make three points. He buries those in his post. And he crafts some wonderful phrases, such as “that is long of nose and short of brains” and “church zombies in moral lockstep.” Those alone make it a good read.

Aside from that, Pete is usually wrong on things.

I am not passing judgement on anyone, but porn doesn't just exist in some back alley anymore.

The big communications companies need to decide whether they are going to provide family entertainment or porn.

Apparently mixing the two on the same satellite feed has its problems.

Some of the high rollers involved in porn will probably be getting bail out money.

BTW AT&T has a patent on the only equipment that can broadcast porn in high definition.
