Federal authorities have compromised the rights and safety of some unaccompanied illegal immigrant children they have detained, and inadequate government guidelines are partly to blame, according to a Texas-based research group.

If illegal alien children are being abused or neglected, they should be protected. They should be protected from the parents that put them in a dangerous, possibly life-threatening position by allowing them to break into a foreign country, whether they are unaccompanied, accompanied by their parents, or sent with strangers. CPS should be called immediately to protect the minor children. They shouldn't have their parents called to be reunited. Their parents should be called so the parents can complete a CPS case plan, which includes the demand that the parents must take care of all legal matters (for example, become legal citizens) If the parents can't complete that little task, they should go somewhere, such as Mexico or Honduras, where they are legal. These parents are neglecting their children. They should be treated just like Americans are treated. Why return children to neglectful parents when those parents will just send them across the border again, then yell and scream when they become injured? They KNOW there is a very good chance of injury, rape, kidnapping, death, yet CPS is never called by authorities. WHY?
https://egov.azdes.gov/CMSInternet/main.aspx?menu=154&id=2124 WHAT IS CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT?
When a parent, guardian or custodian inflicts or allows the infliction of physical, sexual or emotional abuse, neglect,
exploitation or abandonment.
Physical abuse includes non-accidental physical injuries such as bruises, broken bones, burns, cuts or other injuries.
Sexual abuse occurs when sex acts are performed with children. Using children in pornography, prostitution or other
types of sexual activity is also sexual abuse.
Neglect occurs when children are not given necessary care for illness or injury. Neglect also includes leaving young
children unsupervised or alone, locked in or out of the house, or without adequate clothing, food, or shelter. Allowing children to live in a very dirty house which could be a health hazard may also be considered neglect.
Emotional abuse of a child is evidenced by severe anxiety, depression, withdrawal or improper aggressive behavior as diagnosed by a medical doctor or psychologist, and caused by the acts or omissions of the parent or caretaker.
Exploitation means use of a child by a parent, guardian or custodian for material gain.
Abandonment means the failure of the parent to provide reasonable support and to maintain regular contact with the child, including providing normal supervision, when such failure is intentional and continues for an indefinite period

Speaking for myself, I do not, and would never, advocate carte blanche mistreatment of children, regardless of nationality. The reality is that the potential for mishaps is there during appprehensions of those violating the law, knowingly or not.
Cuffs can sometimes be put on too tight. Falls and scrapes can happen while someone is resisting arrest. Yes, sometimes bad things can happen intentionally, which is not a laughing matter. But let's let courts of law hear the cases and weigh the facts. Was the 13 year old girl that was interviewed telling the truth? I do not know. Should the Border Patrol be excoriated for denying her over-the-counter medication, or were they acting in a prudent manner, fearing that the medication could cause any number of adverse reactions, creating the likelihood of anger and a lawsuit claiming negligence by Border
Patrol? Lastly, those who oppose illegal immigration as a point of law should not automatically be branded "racists". Believe it or not, there are many, including myself, who are not.

Why is it that this needs to be pointed out every time this topic is discussed, IT IS NOT RACISM TO HATE CRIMINALS. As it was pointed out before, there are 13 year old gang members that kill. The Border Patrol cant take the chance that some of these kids might not be gang members. Each Border Patrol agents first responsibility is to ensure there own safety, so yea, they are going to treat every person they apprehend as potentially violent.
As far as not giving over the counter medications to illegals being detained, that is completely void of details. The Border Patrol is not a health care providing group. It is ILLEGAL for them to dispense drugs, even if they are over the counter. I work for a local fire dept. as an EMT and I am not permitted to give out over the counter medications. I'm considered a medical professional, and I cant give out Motrin or Tylenol, why is the Border Patrol, a law enforcement organization, expected to do so? Its not being inhumane, its avoiding possible adverse reactions that could result in death. Border Patrol agents are trained in basic first aid, not how to preform a detailed physical assessment of a patient and know contraindications for medications and procedures.

I know its hard to swallow the pill along with them beign illegal aliens... but these are CHILDREN!
Basic humanity demands that you treat your fellow man/woman better than that. If you claim to be of any christian background... where are those values now... when we are talking about those who literally cannot defend themselves, and have little choice and information about the situation they now find themselves in.

The Center for Public Policy Priorities calls 16 year-old members of MS-13 with extensive criminal histories not what they are, which are menaces to public safety, but instead calls them "minors". Their points are therefore laughable, not laudable.

So much hatred and racism here today. Probably the same sick bunch standing in line to buy guns.
What is WRONG with you people?
The article concerned CHILDREN.
You should be ashamed of yourselves.
Mistreatment of children is pitiful.... BUT... still the fact remains... if their parents were not here illegally, neither would they... meaning... they would not have been any mistreatment.
Trace these children back to their parents who obviously do not give a rats tail about because they are knowingly putting them in harms way.

Yeah Bran Muffin, I'm in line to buy a gun to protect myself from the illegal who wants to break into my house and steal (or worse) what I've worked hard my whole life to afford.

Had any Agent given a minor an unprescribed over the counter medicine they have been subject discipline.
This article is bunk. And I see it is written from "reports", mostly outside of the US agencies involved.

Yes, the USA mistreats illegal immigrants. But, we must mistreat them less than their home countries or they would not keep coming.

I think we should be even harder on them. They are criminals you know.

Where are these kids' parents? These children are in the U.S. illegally. They broke the law here. The U.S. authorities are NOT baby sitters! These kids are treated humanely. Send them all home, ASAP!

#40 CPS can't even keep the American children in this country safe from abuse. Now you want CPS to keep illegal Mexican children safe as well?

If these "poor unfortunate urchins"...more then likely gang members...Stay where they belong..This wouldn't happen. I still want to know which liberal whack job decided illegals have "rights". They are invaders and should be treated as such.

If they dispensemeds even if overthe counter ones they'd get accused of practicing medicine without a license especially if someone would have adverse reaction.
