These um cough cough "awards" are a HUGE conflict of interest and I would add, entirely unethical. As the Star is a customer of the AP, a very valuable one considering the paper is more than half made up of wire stories from the AP. So this is like giving an award to one of your favorite, and most financially lucrative customers, what a joke.

What's a joke is that the AZ Repugnant always wins first place. That Gannett rag has absolutely nothing in it. The stories are about three paragraphs long.
I've been watching this contest over the years, and clearly, the Az Associated Press voting body is made up mostly of Az Repugnant staffers...

I doubt that any newpaper in AZ, didn't get an award. The Sierra Vista Herald, was also gloating about their awards. And their "senior reporter" always gets one, and his writing puts a person to sleep.
We've added a feature to the comments pages - the ability to easily add paragraph breaks, boldface type and a few other typographical aids to your comments. Launch toolbar
Use single or double carriage returns to put line breaks or paragraph breaks in your comments.
At the same time, we removed the ability to put HTML coding into the comments. People were misusing that feature by pulling in cartoons, photos and other copyrighted materials from publications elsewhere. We won't allow you to use our pages to violate other publications' copyrights.

Star wins 8 first-place Associated Press awards
The Arizona Daily Star won eight first-place awards, among other honors, in the Associated Press Managing Editors News Writing and Photo Contest.I too would like to give the "Aztlan Daily Star" an award:
The "Cover-Up" award for lying about the racist nature of the "Who's Illegal... Pilgrim?" movement, and it's leader in Tucson: Isabel Garcia.
