What the...?!?!

I have nothing to say. I just wanted to share a couple of interesting photos and yell…LOOK OUT, JEFF!

Ethan Miller/Getty Images

Watch your back, Jeffrey. Tony might push you off your chair and then Robby will kick you in the shins when you’re trying to get up.

And just in case you didn’t believe your eyes. One more…

Can it really be a rivalry when the guys play poker for each other’s charities?

Good thing Jeff has Chris “Jesus” Ferguson watching his back.

Now if they can get along can’t their fans find a way to co-exist?

My sister-in-law is one of the biggest Tony Stewart fans around and I still love her. And it didn’t stop my brother from marrying her so I know there’s hope for us all.

  1. Jeff and Tony have actually said many times they are good friends and have upmost respect for eachother. As for the fans of those guys I don’t have a problem with most Jeff Gordon fans. I have the problem with the ones who think Jeff does no wrong and that they bash every driver who does not drive for HMS every chance they get. Other then that I have no problem with Jeff fans, Jimmie Johnson fans are a whole other story tho. ;-)

  2. I feel the same way. I like a bunch of different drivers no matter who they drive for. I certainly don’t care one way or another if Brian Vickers and Kyle Busch win races just because they’re Hendrick guys.

And I think I took the rose-colored glasses off a long time ago. Jeff does some stupid things sometimes and I’ll be the first to say it.

And as much as I often wish Tony and Jeff hated each other I have seen so many pics of them laughing together in the garage that I know that’s not the case. I think that’s why every now and then I start to like Tony again…but then I come to my senses. =)

I’m starting to hear a lot about how obnoxious Jimmie fans are. I like him just fine and like to adhere to the “If not Jeff, then Jimmie” motto —well, more like “If not Jeff, then Elliott Sadler and if not Elliott, then Jimmie”—but I don’t know anyone who calls him their favorite driver so I have no personal experience with his fans.

    Got any stories, Melissa?

  3. Do you have alot of time?? haha I was at Daytona this year and on Friday I was just walking around the fan zone checking everything out. Well I had a JJ fan come up to me and tell me my driver sucked. Now my driver is Tony Stewart so saying my driver sucks espically coming from a JJ fan was just funny. So all I did was laugh and say ok. Then he went on to say that Tony was just a big bully, wrecked more guys then anyone out there and that he was just an ass and I was an idiot to root for him. Now I can take someone saying Tony sucks and I can even take someone calling him a big bully but when a JJ fans says my driver has wrecked more guys then anyone out there and that he is an ass and that I am an idiot for rooting for him is when I draw the line. I have a few more stories about more JJ fans.

  4. I know what you are saying. I’ve had Jeff Gordon fans come up to me AT THE GAS STATION to tell me that Tony sucks because of the “Smoke” sticker across the front of my car. Why? I live with a 10 year old Jeff Gordon fan and I’ve taught her better than. She gets VERY upset when people boo or hiss or make nasty comments about our drivers. It hurts her feelings because she learned the golden rule a very long time ago, “if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all”. It’s all about respect for people. Respect that everyone’s entitled to their own opinions and shouldn’t be condemned for them. Not all fans are like that. At Homestead this past November I sat next to an extrememly dedicated Jeff Gordon fan. As she sat there in her #24 gear and I in my #20 gear we cheered each drivers successes and when all was over she gave me a congratulatory hug on Tony’s championship. Later that night as we wat there watching Tony celebrate with him team, a very familiar looking man in jeans walked over to Tony to give him a congratulatory hug and handshake,...it was Jeff Gordon. The rivalrys are invented for good television.

  5. Nascar’s rivalries are what make the sport great. The loyalty fans have for there drivers is what makes the sponsors interested in the sport.

  6. Man, I hate fans like that.

I obviously have my favorites and guys I dislike just as every other NASCAR fan but I would absolutely never talk trash to someone about their favorite because it’s just childish.

A co-worker tried to get me to make fun of one of our fellow co-workers who is a big Cardinals fan when the Astros eliminated them in the playoffs last year but I wouldn’t do it because I know how much my teams/drivers mean to me that I would never do that to someone else.

Now I will gladly bash the guys I don’t like with other Jeff Gordon fans because that is fun and it’s not being mean to anyone else but I’ll never go up to a Tony Stewart fan and personally attack them or make fun of them for liking him. Doing that doesn’t make me a better Gordon fan.

I even called my sister-in-law and congratulated her when Tony won the championship last season.

  7. Oh goodness, Jaynelle, if those pictures made you afraid for J. Go., get a load of this one…

    http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y28/RoGoGirl/robby/1507528_7_3.jpg

I stared at that thing for an hour, shocked that Robby & Jeff weren’t strangling each other… though it does look like Jeff is fixing to give Robby a shot to the throat. ;-)

It’s really amusing how quickly these guys put their problems behind them when their fans are still fighting about it. Case in point, fall AMS Busch race ‘04 – post Robby being a bonehead at Loudon and taking out Tony & Mayfield in the process. Guess what two guys were sharing a ride around the track for driver intros?

    Robby and Tony.

My brother and I amused ourselves by commentating an imaginary boxing-wrestling match between Robby & Tony, starting with Tony dropkicking Robby out of the truck bed!

Being a Robby fan, I’m used to other fans hating me and my driver for something he did. I make a habit of scoping the web for pictures of him with goofing around with other drivers just so I can say, see, he has friends! ;-)

  8. BTW I’m a huge Jimmie fan and trust me that we are getting more crap from other people than has ever been dished out. It’s a little tiring and annoying when you frequent another driver’s board and they spend more time bashing Jimmie and his fans than they spend talking about their driver.
    Carrie    03/13/2006 08:27 PM    #
  9. You know, Carrie, I saw Robby on a couple episodes of NASCAR Drivers 360, I think, and he seemed like a really funny and nice guy. I think he gets a bad rap for a few mistakes he’s made on the track. But what driver hasn’t made mistakes?

Of course every time he is anywhere near Jeff I get a little nervous. =)

It is true though that we seem to hold onto grudges longer than the drivers. I guess they have a better understanding of “it’s just one of those racing deals” than we do.

And don’t let the Jimmie-bashing bother you. They always want to knock down the guy on top. As long as he keeps winning you get the last laugh.

  10. He really is a great guy, Jaynelle. If he wasn’t I probably would have given up on him a long time ago, if that makes any sense. Besides, I’ve always been a sucker for the outsider and underdog!
