Saturday night, Dec. 9 was a night for the talented ladies of our local Tucson music scene.
First, our beloved Leila Lopez sang her heart out at Solar Culture for her CD release party. It was fabulous how supportive her family was as they served us drinks and food, and promoted her music so wholeheartedly. I finally got to meet Leila at a restaurant the other night and I can honestly say that her smile is enough to make a dark room glow. Her singing has a similar effect.
After Leila’s show it was on to another downtown space to see the brilliant and subtle Maya Caballero. Hearing her sing again was so great. She is a little moth, fluttering around us, laying her words so carefully and sly, yet so loaded and heavy enough to quiet a quirky crowd. I even found some of us yelling at everyone to shut up so we could hear her. That is how much of an effect her music has on listeners.
Catch these girls out on the town somewhere in the near future. You can find them and their huge voices all over Tucson.
