About this blog

Fashion. Style. Shoes. Need I say more?

The country may be in a recession - but that doesn't mean we have to look like it!

I for one subscribe to the "they'll NEVER know what you paid" and the "nobody will EVER read the tag in your waistband" philosophy of fashion.

I love clothes. I love shoes. (I also love chocolate and wine, so testosterone beware!)

Wanna talk about where the bargains are in town? Check here.

Wanna talk about how to wear that trend? Check here. (Especially if it's your second time on the merry-go-round.)

Wanna talk about all the craziness we love to hate about fashion today? Let's talk.

And for the practically minded conscientious types who want to argue that there are more important things in the world to discuss today...

So?

The foundation for fashion

So with all those red carpets, premiers and awards shows – one has to wonder, do all the women in Hollywood REALLY look that perfect? Or is there something other than an injectable chemical holding things in place?

Did Nicole Kidman really lose the baby fat that quickly, or did she invest in the Lexus of all girdles?

One cruise through Victoria Secret may inspire vixen looks reminiscent of Marie Antoinette’s fashions in Sophia Coppola’s movie vision of France — but it hardly inspires confidence that every bump, lump and jiggle will behave when most desired.

So what’s a modern-day girl to do? We’ve all heard of Spanx by now. Molly Shannon popularized it when she flashed the audience of a recent awards show.

Personally, I’m relieved fashion is starting to follow the Eva Longorias, Jennifer Lopezes and America Ferreras of the world. It’s about time we got back to healthier looking models of beauty. But that doesn’t alleviate our need to perfect what we do have, and that means smoothing out our imperfections and highlighting what we’re proud of.

But in Arizona’s heat and this season’s humidity, are we willing to encase ourselves in Spanx, which basically looks like it amounts to nothing more than pantyhose with the legs cut off?

I don’t know. I still believe that the cut and style appropriate for my body type will do more for me than strategically placed double-sided tape or wires.

What do you think? Are foundation garments making a comeback to women’s fashion? Do the free-willed and bra-free twenty-somethings of today have support hose in their future?

Is there such a thing as an “attractive” foundation garment? I’ve searched all over the Internet and found nothing that doesn’t resemble a scuba diving outfit. Well at least the next time I’m diving for pearls, the girls will be firmly in place.

  1. Excellent article on foundation garments or lingerie as I call them. I focus on sexy hosiery with my blog, yet lingerie or foundation garments compliment pantyhose tremdously!
