When you're a reporter digging deep, you turn up a lot of dirt. But that doesn't mean you can put all the good dirt in the story.
I've found myself with a lot of extra, good dirt in my new role as senior reporter (hence, Señor Reporter), writing primarily for the Arizona Daily Star's Sunday paper.
Check in often, and let's see what we can turn up.
You may have heard radio advertisements here for an REI Labor-Day sale. I have twice, as I’ve punched my way through my car-radio pre-sets. It got me wondering if Tucsonans would actually be able to go to the new local REI store to take advantage of the sale.
The bad news for the outdoor-gear retailer’s fans? No, it’s not opening that soon. The good news: The planned opening date has moved up in recent months from fall 2010.
The planned opening date is now spring 2010, REI spokeswoman Bethany Nielson told me (actually my voicemail). She wasn’t sure today what precisely explains the acceleration, which followed a big delay. But everything tends to be determined by construction schedules in the revamping of Tucson Mall.
So why the ads here?
“We do regional advertisements and have a large customer base in the Tucson area. That’s why we’re opening a store in the area.”
But for now, those customers will have to continue traveling to Tempe or jumping online to patronize the store.
Shop Summit Hut instead. Much more knowledgeable people and you’d be supporting local business as well!!
