Second day action is underway.
Final results:
(1) Texas Texecutioners : 121 vs (7) Sin City Neanderdolls : 49
(3) Rat City All-Stars : 112 vs (6) B.A.D. Girls : 35
(4) AZRD Tent City Terrors : 70 vs (5) Kansas City Roller Warriors : 75
(2) Tucson Saddletramps: 166 vs. (9) Duke City Munecas Muertas: 44
vs.
In what I think could be the most exciting match of the day, (4) AZRD Tent City Terrors is going up against (5) Kansas City Roller Warriors.
AZRD is far from invincible and K.C. had a pretty convincing win over Dallas on Friday (140- 61). This looks like the toughest to call based on the seedings- kind of like the Duke City/Rocky Mountain match last night.
Live updates:
6:24
The bouts are running a little behind schedule now, with KC/AZRD player introductions just happening now.
6:27
Stillllll player intros.
Although no Ludacris soundtrack for AZRD like KC.
Tucson’s own Endless Justin will be calling this one.
6:29
Pretty sure whoever is introducing AZRD just dropped an f-bomb.
Crowd seems a little more energetic tonight. Maybe 600-700 here right now.
6:33
7-0 AZRD with 17:30 to go.
6:36
14-1 AZRD with 14:30 to go.
Whoever is the other dude announcer from KC right now with Jeff Mann seems like he has NO CONTROL OVER THE loudness of HIS VOICCCCCCCCE!!!!
6:40
18-15 AZRD with 12 mins. to go.
KC just jumped back in it with some strong jamming by Snot Rocket, who is turning into a star this weekend.
6:40
The DJs Bobshelter are playing local rockers Beta Sweat to soundtrack this match. Nice.
6:41
23-19 AZRD with 8 mins to go.
Everytime Kansas City gets a lead jammer, its Captain Muffled-announcer screams the skater’s name so loud all you hear is a distorted voice.
Move away from the microphone, Skippy.
UPDATE: It’s all better now.
6:46
24-23 Kansas City with 7 mins to go
This one’s going back and fourth.
AZRD’s Sheriff Shutyerpaio is now lead jammer.
6:48
26-24 AZRD W/ 5 mins.
Snot Rocket has taken the lead jammer position and is burning up the track.
6:48
30-26 KC with 3 mins.
KC’s got a lead jammer again.
6:53:
34-28 KC- End of 1st period
Jeff Mann’s calling KC Cinderella, KC’s announcer is making noises like a hawk and the period’s over.
6:59
Still don’t have a score on the Rat City game, but I’m willing to bet some old pots and pans in my trunk Seattle took it.
7:03
A TRD security guard is up here in Bladeworld’s bird nest eating a hamburger. Should we be worried?
7:08
Saddletramp and Duke City players are scattered throughout Bladeworld waiting for the next match.
There’s also some Texas girls leftover from their win today.
On the way in here, I saw some skaters on their way to Sonic.
Sonic’s waitresses serve you food on rollerskates.
Wondering if that would upset the space-time continuum.
7:11
38-32 KC with 17:30 to go.
KC’s Snot Rocket is on the tear again.
7:14
42-34 KC with 15 mins.
Tried to go into the crowd but thought better of it with an expensive work laptop and a dude with bad balance double-fisting next to me.
7:18
44-35 KC with 11 mins.
Update on Rat City:
(3) Rat City All-Stars : 112 vs (6) B.A.D. Girls : 35
So as expected, Rat City will face Texas tomorrow.
Wait for the whining….wait for it….
7:20
Where have I seen this before?
Seems like Denise Lightning is jamming almost every jam.
7:23
Sheriff Shutyerpaio just had a pretty good run for AZRD…waiting for the score.
7:24
44-41 KC with 5 mins. to go.
Denise Lightning just had another good run for AZRD.
AZRD is rotating Lightning and Sheriff and having success.
7:27
46-44 KC with 1:20 to go.
Saddletramps’ Tombstone Teri already has her skates on.
KC is having a real problem stopping Lightning and Sheriff- they’re going to have to come up with some sort of strategy at the break.
Endless Justin just called a stop to all whistles in the crowd.
7:32
50-44 KC at end of 2nd period.
Crowd is on its feet.
7:34
Man, I’ve passed Texas’ head coach a couple times here today.
He reminds me of the New York Yankees’ Joe Torre.
Like, if this were a ‘80s summer camp movie ala “Meatballs,” he’d be the perfect villain coach for the opposing team.
He’s dressed all in black and has a icy glance that makes it seem like its possible he’s kind a man before.
7:45
Alrighhhhhht, if you’re just joining us now, that’s because there was some technical difficulties.
All better now.
7:47
Third period under way.
7:50
55-54 KC with 18 mins. to go
There’s an older guy with his laptop plugged into what I’m pretty sure is the only outlet in Bladeworld where you’re still able to see the action on the track and not lose battery power- and he’s got his head down, random papers scattered around, and I’m pretty sure is doing his taxes.
Ugh.
7:51
56-55 AZRD with 15:30 to go.
Lightning lead jammer now. And she’s going in for another jam back-to-back.
That’s called depth, ladies and gents.
7:54
56-55 AZRD with 13 mins to go.
KC’s Snot Rocket is lead jamming and the crowd is quickly swelling.
7:56
59-57 KC with 11 mins. left.
It’s getting hot inside this building, man.
7:58
Crowd is chanting “Snot Rocket.”
Only in derby.
8:06
59-59 with 7 mins.
8:10
67-59 KC with 5 mins.
KC’s points have come off huge jams, and Snot Rocket is quickly becoming a star here.
8:12
75-66 KC with 2 mins left
AZ’s Sheriff is lead jammer.
This place is on its feet and on the edge.
8:15
74-70 KC 55 secs.
8:17
75-70 KC wins
This place is going nuts.
AZRD’s jammer Denise Lightning was sent to the penalty box during the last jam which effectively ended the game.
So KC upsets AZRD and will face the Tucson Saddeltramps tomorrow.
The KC Warriors, who will also now be advancing to the finals in Austin with the #4 spot, are in the middle of the track dancing to Ludacris’ “Move Bitch.”
vs.

Our second bout of the night will see the (2) Tucson Saddletramps take on (9) Duke City Munecas Muertas.
I got an early hunch the ‘Tramps should be favored in the matchup, but we’ll see.
8:32
Pregame
The worst part about Bladeworld right now, is the absolute cluster-f you have to endure to get from one side of the rink to the other.
It’s like a cross between a city subway and that scene in “Star Wars” when the walls are closing in from both sides.
9:06
Alrighht.
Game still hasn’t started yet.
9:08
Duke City intros.
And that guy doing his taxes was nice enough to vacate so I’m plugged in.
Patience is a virtue.
9:11
Announcer Downtown Dave is doing player intros for the Tramps.
It’s kind of funny because for the first time in a while the crowd isn’t entirely made up of Tucson fans.
Still getting hearty cheers though.
Saddletramps’ Tumbleweed is out with a broken collar bone.
9:15
4-4 tie with 17 minutes to go.
9:18
14-8 Tucson with 15 mins.
Hoot ‘n Annie just nabbed 10 points and was slicing through Duke City’s defense.
9:19
18-8 Tucson at 12 mins.
9:24
28-9 Tucson at 7:30
Tucson’s Fisti Cuffs showed us her speed ruffles, but she’s not getting through the pack easy as Duke City is swinging some heavy shoulders.
9:27
32-11 Tucson with 4:30
Tucson’s Tombstone Teri just grabbed lead jammer.
You starting to get the idea of how this one’s going down?
9:30
39-11 Tucson with 2:20
Duke City has yet to have a lead jammer.
Flo just picked up some more digits.
9:33
43-11 Tucson- end of 1st.
Nothing to do with roller derby, but a guy from my Boston Celtics just won the slam dunk contest tonight.
I’m pretty sure that hasn’t happened for a Celtic in over 10 years.
Thought you should know.
9:43
Happy birthday to Berlin Wall.
9:46
Just told in KC’s game, Snot Rocket did not get a single penalty.
That’s pretty amazing, especially considering how much she played.
A star is born.
9:50
45-12 Tucson with 17 mins.
Okay, Hard Anya is jamming now for Tucson. She’s a blocker 99% of the time. And now she’s the lead jammer.
She’s taken like 5 laps through Duke City.
9:54
64-12 Tucson at 14 mins.
So that was a 19-point jam for Anya. Is that right? Anybody?
9:56
66-12 Tucson at 12:30.
It’s kind of awesomely quiet in here at points, like people are kind of speechless.
Or tired and bored after the intensity of the last bout.
9:59
75-13 Tucson at 9:57
Hard Anya is jamming again and she’s the lead jammer.
Okay, I understand this better now.
Tucson is resting its regular jammers since Tumbleweed, a jammer, is out with an injury.
10:06
92-18 Tucson with 3 mins left.
Man, the Wildcats lost again. And the U.S. Senate rejected a renewed effort to debate the course of action in Iraq.
And the Saddletramps are dominating.
Hard Anya’s back on the jammer line. It’s that kind of night.
10:09
104-22 Tucson- end of second.
10:23
Bladeworld is
hemmoraging fans right now.
Hemmoraging is such a cooler way of saying losing.
I am getting tired.
10:27
109-22 Tucson with 18 mins.
Tucson’s pivot/block Sweet Tooth is jamming now.
Doe’s totally jamming tonight.
Also, my computer’s freezing up, so if this thing dies: The Saddltramps will be playing KC tomorrow.
10:36
134-30 w/ 10 mins in third.
So tomorrow’s Final Four schedule goes like this:
Texas vs. Rat City at 1 p.m. (MTN)
Saddletramps and Kansas City at 3:30 p.m. (MTN)
Third Place match at 6 p.m. (MTN)
Championship at 8:30 p.m. (MTN)
10:45
166-41 Tucson FINAL
On the last jame, Tucson jammer Hard Anya (!) got taken out on a penalty so it’s Duke City’s Muffin’s jam.
Gamer over. The last remaining fans on their feet.
Duke City and the Tramps exchanging hugs.
See you tomorrow.
New York will be lucky to have her…
-Tombstone Teri

Thanks Teri- I knew it didn’t sound right. All I knew was the next time I updated the score there was a big point difference.
Good luck today!
