It took the filmmakers six years to bring "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" from an idea on paper to the big screen. The movie was first proposed in late 2001 to follow the 2002 conclusion of the popular Fox TV series, which was an instant hit with viewers when it first aired in 1993. The movie, the second one spawned from the series, opens Friday in theaters nationwide.
The TV series, which focused on a pair of FBI agents tasked with investigating aliens and paranormal phenomena, earned this historic pop culture distinction even before it went off the air.
