Last week, Michael Jackson, "The
King of Pop," died after suffering
cardiac arrest. He was 50, and
preparing start a series of
comeback concerts.

Jackson's musical
accomplishments were many,
including the hits "Bad," "Billie
Jean," "Thriller" and "Shake Your
Body (Down to the Ground)." His
1982 album "Thriller" is the
best-selling album of all time.

He collaborated with Paul
McCartney, Quincey Jones, and
his sister, Janet Jackson.

He invented the moonwalk.

And while his behavior later in life
was bizarre, we prefer to focus
on the positives, like Jackson's
music, and his charity work.

In one instance, the two
overlapped. Jackson co-wrote the
charity single "We Are the
World," which was released
worldwide to aid the poor in
Africa and the United States.

Tell us who co-wrote the song for
a chance to win an audio book.

Give the beauty queen a break

01/03/2008 07:49 AM
Cathalena E. Burch

Granted, Kumari Fullbright’s booking mug, with her hair tangled and pulled back, her eyes red and drawn, and her mouth frozen in a cry, is a far stretch from her beauty queen mug. But the folks on CNN Headlline News’ ‘Morning Express with Robin Meade’ were unrelentless in their mocking this morning.

The show’s hosts displayed the mug shot and asked their colleagues not to laugh. One even suggested that her weapon of choice in the alleged kidnap-torture of Fulbright’s ex-boyfriend was her looks. Every time they brought up the story, it was the same snears and snickers. Tsk tsk tsk.

Pima County authorities released Fulbright’s unflattering mugshot along with the mugs of her three alleged male accomplises. Police accuse her of torturing and robbing her ex-mate Dec. 8. She is free on $50,000 bond.

Fulbright was named Miss Pima County in 2005 and Miss Desert Sun the following year. She is a law student at the University of Arizona.

  2. Sorry Cathalena,

When you ask the public to admire and applaud you because of your beauty, you’re also iniviting them to criticize and mock you when you show up looking like that mug shot…not even to mention doing something as dispicable and harmful as kidnapping and torture. I think your sorrow can be better spent on the true victim of the physical harm.

  3. What happened to innocent until proven guilty? Why are we so eager to convict on accusations, a not so flattering photograph, and media accounts. Just because an accusation is made, does not make it true. Anyone remember Duke? You all had those boys convicted and sentenced in the first day, yet no one has learned a thing. Amazing! That being said I will wait for the trial and EVIDENCE before crucifying this girl

  4. I think the entire episode was George Bush’s fault. And Karl Rove is to blame for the batshit insane look on the koo-koo’s face. Mug shot? Looks like she’s trying to pinch off a 27 lb steamer.

  5. Guilty? Not guilty? We don’t know. What we do know is that making fun of people based on their looks is a behavior we discourage even in 13 year-olds; it’s not what we expect from adults. The “public” can criticize what it wants … professional TV journalists and other talking heads are held to higher standards. CNN failed to meet them.

  6. How about making fun of the journalist who uses the non-word “unrelentless?”.
“Relentless” would be appropriate. Or maybe “unrepentant.”
Who could resist making fun of the so-called “beauty queen?” She looks like she’s fallen on hard times. Happens to the best of us and maintaining your sense of humor usually helps us get through, right?

  7. I just can’t stop laughing at this one. I totally agree with the Joe. When you put yourself out there as a “Beauty Queen” and then show up looking like this, you have to know you are going to be skewered. If you ask me though, I think she has become a total crack head.

  8. When you act like an idiot criminal, expect to be treated like one.

  9. What else to expect of those narcist newsreaders who prefer spending a couple of hours everyday before a mirror grooming themselves up instead of applying their minds so as not to trivialize a serious piece of news. And whatever happened to humility as a human virtue ?
