UA homecoming this weekend is
all about Wilbur the Wildcat - the
beloved and furry mascot turns
50 on Saturday.

The UA used real animals as
mascots off and on between the
early 1900s and the late 1950s
(with at least one tragic mishap),
until two UA students (Richard
Heller and John Paquette)
pitched the idea of using a
costume-wearing human.

Wilbur made his first appearance
at the UA vs. Texas Tech football
game on Nov. 7, 1959, and was
an immediate hit, according to a
UA Web site.

Wilbur's look has evolved over the
years. It was during one of those
costume makeovers that Wilma
the Wildcat was created.

She made her first public
appearance on March 1, 1986,
during a "blind date" with Wilbur.
The pair later "married" before an
Arizona-Arizona State football
game.

For a chance to win a a set of
three audio books, tell us the
date of their wedding.

Find out what the Star's TV junkies think of your favorite shows including "The Office," "Heroes," "Prison Break" and more, plus the latest news from the small screen.

And the first scripted show to get canceled is ...

Wow. That was fast!

The Los Angeles Times is reporting the first casualty among scripted shows this season, and it’s not “The Big Bang Theory,” starring the high-lair-ee-us Johnny Galecki. Yes, that was sarcasm.

Read here to find out how and why “Viva Laughlin” got the axe after only two shows.

Two shows? I watched Sunday night’s episode, and it wasn’t great, but really not as bad as half of the CW’s lineup. For something that had Hugh Jackman’s fingerprints all over it, you’d think they let it burn away for a few more weeks. I guess this puts the final nail on the coffin for TV musical series. Of course, there are only two shows now six feet under.

Yes, “Cop Rock” was beaten to death by the media and savaged by viewers who didn’t want their cops to sing in the 1990s. Showing us their bums? No biggie.

I was one of the fans of “Cop Rock.” I thought it was cool. Different. Interesting. But I could see the weariness in the songs from Randy Newman. It must be hard enough to write five songs over many months for a movie musical. How bad is it to write five songs EVERY WEEK? This song which opened the pilot isn’t too bad, though I just ached for one or more of the cops to join him in song or at least to repeat the refrain as they walked away:

Here’s another one, in case you need more of a musical-drama fix. May I present the Baby Merchant:
