UA homecoming this weekend is
all about Wilbur the Wildcat - the
beloved and furry mascot turns
50 on Saturday.

The UA used real animals as
mascots off and on between the
early 1900s and the late 1950s
(with at least one tragic mishap),
until two UA students (Richard
Heller and John Paquette)
pitched the idea of using a
costume-wearing human.

Wilbur made his first appearance
at the UA vs. Texas Tech football
game on Nov. 7, 1959, and was
an immediate hit, according to a
UA Web site.

Wilbur's look has evolved over the
years. It was during one of those
costume makeovers that Wilma
the Wildcat was created.

She made her first public
appearance on March 1, 1986,
during a "blind date" with Wilbur.
The pair later "married" before an
Arizona-Arizona State football
game.

For a chance to win a a set of
three audio books, tell us the
date of their wedding.

'Desperate Housewives' -- Of cold shoulders and freezers

I’m very sad that Sir Ian McCutie is going back to England. This is the saddest thing that’s happened to “Desperate Housewives” since creator March Cherry has to give Alfre Woodard the ax.

But apparently it won’t be easy for Susan to reunite with Mike; the plumber left town. The preview for next week’s pisode has Susan searching for him in the mountains. I can see Mike as a mountain man. Susan wouldn’t survive three seconds out there.

And I guess there can’t be a leading lady who isn’t having an affair with someone. I never really thought it would be Lynette, but she’s the only married one left. Oscar nominee (and Emmy winner) Felicity Huffman deserves some great drama, and I hope this storyline turns out better than Gaby and Carlos.

From the moment Gaby and Carlos broke up, I was sure they’d get back together. It might happen by the end of the season. That means we’ll get another hubba-hubba guy saying his fond farewell: John Slattery.

  1. This was the first episode of the DH I had watched in months. I hadn’t realized that Lynette quit her job to help out the pizza joint – and wasn’t there some sort of subplot about a child molestor or something in the neighborhood? I remember Lynette going into someone’s basement and seeing lots of pictures of little kids. Maybe that’s just some weird dream I had.

  2. Albert, your dream was real!

There was indeed a storyline about a child molester. Lynette found the pictures, she got the street talking, then the man’s sister died and the man moved on to pounce on kids on another street.

As for Lynette’s job: After the supermarket shooting, she got some medical leave to heal. Then, she ditched her first day of work and got fired. She then made the dumb move of going into business with her whiny husband.

  3. Awesome. Thanks for the info.

Is it just me or is the show somehow…more normal without Bree? I want her to come back, because I like the character and Marcia Cross is great, but she’s also SO over-the-top all the time that it’s nice to have a little bit of a break.

Plus, Nicolette Sheridan in HD…not necessarily a pretty sight.
