I’ve been putting off this blog all day because I have not wanted to give this sentiment power by typing these words but … something is off with “Gilmore Girls.” I can’t put my finger quite on it except to say that some of feeling, perhaps even some of its soul, is missing.
The dialogue isn’t quite fast enough. And most of it is just almost funny. I mean, really? Two jokes about Gwyneth Paltrow ?
And what was up with Lane? Seriously, the adventurous, do-what-I-want, adorable, perfect Lane can’t figure out on her own that sex gets better? And we’re really supposed to believe that at 21, with a man she loves, sex was totally traumatic?? And she gets pregnant after having sex with her husband one time? Where are the girls-rule messages I love about this show?? (Sorry I got so italic happy, but this whole story line just killed me.)
And I’m glad Rory tore into Lorelai for sleeping with Christopher, but are we really supposed to believe she wouldn’t once bring up how Luke must be feeling? Luke, who was the first thing she brought up post-break-up. Luke, who hauled her crap to college. Luke, who is the closest thing to a father she’s ever known? I don’t buy it.
Even scenes that start out to be very promising, like Rory’s trip the living room of China, end up a little flat. When Luke and Lorelai met in the middle of the street, I felt a sad but also like the whole encounter was forced. Which was maybe on purpose, but I don’t think so. I felt the same way in the super market.
One whole scene I did swallow completely was Kirk’s diner. I giggled several times and thought the vibe between Kirk and Luke was perfect. Particularly when Kirk handed Luke a job application. Awesome.
I don’t know … I’m trying to push this unpleasantness back down because I want to love Luke and Lorelai and Rory again, but … am I alone here?

No one is acting the way you would expect from characters we have seen for six years – the ugly, cruel way Lorelai dumped Luke was the nail in the coffin for me.
Now, I am actually hoping Lorelai and Chris stay together for good because Luke deserves so much better than Lorelai.
This whole episode felt like one giant explanation of every idiotic thing the characters have done since mid season last year. If they had told this story well, we wouldn’t have to be subjected to these long explanations about why everybody did what they did.
I hadn’t watched the show since last February until I watched this one and now I’m out again.
Too sad to watch the actors be subjected to such crummy writing.

Hardly. There are more and more of us everyday, and even the optimistics are just hanging by a thread…
As a matter of fact, for me to keep my ‘GG fan’ badge and to keep any affection I have towards these characters (especially Lorelai, my love, my tv alter ego, who I now hate violently)—I had to stop watching.
This doesn’t feel like the same world, these don’t feel like the same people, and it’s just too heartbreaking for me to watch.

The only thing that keeps me watching is the disappearance of season 6 Pod!Luke and more airtime and challenging scenes for Scott Patterson. He’s reason enough to watch.
