Last week, Michael Jackson, "The
King of Pop," died after suffering
cardiac arrest. He was 50, and
preparing start a series of
comeback concerts.

Jackson's musical
accomplishments were many,
including the hits "Bad," "Billie
Jean," "Thriller" and "Shake Your
Body (Down to the Ground)." His
1982 album "Thriller" is the
best-selling album of all time.

He collaborated with Paul
McCartney, Quincey Jones, and
his sister, Janet Jackson.

He invented the moonwalk.

And while his behavior later in life
was bizarre, we prefer to focus
on the positives, like Jackson's
music, and his charity work.

In one instance, the two
overlapped. Jackson co-wrote the
charity single "We Are the
World," which was released
worldwide to aid the poor in
Africa and the United States.

Tell us who co-wrote the song for
a chance to win an audio book.

Gilmore Girls - Please, fix it

remote

I’ve been putting off this blog all day because I have not wanted to give this sentiment power by typing these words but … something is off with “Gilmore Girls.” I can’t put my finger quite on it except to say that some of feeling, perhaps even some of its soul, is missing.

The dialogue isn’t quite fast enough. And most of it is just almost funny. I mean, really? Two jokes about Gwyneth Paltrow ?

And what was up with Lane? Seriously, the adventurous, do-what-I-want, adorable, perfect Lane can’t figure out on her own that sex gets better? And we’re really supposed to believe that at 21, with a man she loves, sex was totally traumatic?? And she gets pregnant after having sex with her husband one time? Where are the girls-rule messages I love about this show?? (Sorry I got so italic happy, but this whole story line just killed me.)

And I’m glad Rory tore into Lorelai for sleeping with Christopher, but are we really supposed to believe she wouldn’t once bring up how Luke must be feeling? Luke, who was the first thing she brought up post-break-up. Luke, who hauled her crap to college. Luke, who is the closest thing to a father she’s ever known? I don’t buy it.

Even scenes that start out to be very promising, like Rory’s trip the living room of China, end up a little flat. When Luke and Lorelai met in the middle of the street, I felt a sad but also like the whole encounter was forced. Which was maybe on purpose, but I don’t think so. I felt the same way in the super market.

One whole scene I did swallow completely was Kirk’s diner. I giggled several times and thought the vibe between Kirk and Luke was perfect. Particularly when Kirk handed Luke a job application. Awesome.

I don’t know … I’m trying to push this unpleasantness back down because I want to love Luke and Lorelai and Rory again, but … am I alone here?

  1. No you’re not alone. The show is definitely off, and it’s just not fun to watch anymore. It hasn’t been for a year. I never thought I was invested in Luke and Lorelai but seeing them apart means I just don’t want to watch anymore.

  2. I hear ya!!! I had been waiting for 5 years for Lorilei and Luke to admit that they love each other, and well, what the heck is up??? I can’t stand Christopher now because he knew how much she loved Luke and he took advantage of the situation. I am going to watch a few more episodes and if the writers don’t fix their relationship, well I guess I will be checking out what the other networks have on at that time!

  3. I’m loving the new season. Is this not better than what we suffered through last season? Come on, give it time, They’ll end up together. At least these past two episodes have been more than an hour of build-up to nothing. I’m actually a fan of Lorelai and Christopher, but I’ll watch no matter who she ends up with. It’s the only show I watch. It’s called being a fan.

  4. The show is a painful imitation of its former wonderful self.
No one is acting the way you would expect from characters we have seen for six years – the ugly, cruel way Lorelai dumped Luke was the nail in the coffin for me.
Now, I am actually hoping Lorelai and Chris stay together for good because Luke deserves so much better than Lorelai.
This whole episode felt like one giant explanation of every idiotic thing the characters have done since mid season last year. If they had told this story well, we wouldn’t have to be subjected to these long explanations about why everybody did what they did.
I hadn’t watched the show since last February until I watched this one and now I’m out again.
Too sad to watch the actors be subjected to such crummy writing.

  5. You’re not alone. It’s being written as if the first five years of the show never took place. The new powers that be are continuing the garbage from last season, when it seemed that the Palldinos got bored and decided to write a new show under the guise of the old one. Whatever this is, it isn’t Gilmore Girls. The characters have lost their minds. The show has lost its heart and soul. If I wanted to watch a mediocre soap opera, I wouldn’t have started watching GG.

  6. Alone?
Hardly. There are more and more of us everyday, and even the optimistics are just hanging by a thread…
As a matter of fact, for me to keep my ‘GG fan’ badge and to keep any affection I have towards these characters (especially Lorelai, my love, my tv alter ego, who I now hate violently)—I had to stop watching.

This doesn’t feel like the same world, these don’t feel like the same people, and it’s just too heartbreaking for me to watch.

  7. You are not alone. This was a show about a strong, independent, good-hearted woman and her daughter. Now I don’t even like Lorelai. Her only way to deal with her hurt over Luke’s botched handling of April was through passive aggression. After avoiding him for days, she gives Luke a crazed ultimatum and then cruelly betrays him because she couldn’t be alone? So much for strong women!

The only thing that keeps me watching is the disappearance of season 6 Pod!Luke and more airtime and challenging scenes for Scott Patterson. He’s reason enough to watch.

  8. the new season has def. lost it’s magic, Im sure it’s because the Palladino’s are now gone, it’s like someones trying to force a good script and the cast has just lost that sparkle. Hope it gets better soon!

  9. The only reason the new season is a bit borning is becuause they have to clear up the MESS Amy Sherman- Palido made as a Kiss off. I have to say I used to love Luke. But last season, that was not fair what he was doing to Lorelai. He refused to let her talk to April. He became a really cranky old man. Just watch the Martha’s Vineyard episode there’s your proof. This season is way better that last. Last season was like watching a soap opera. It was so much fighting. I don’t remeber that many funny refrences last season other than Paris. Paris and kirk crack me up. I thought that the car into the diner was classic. I have not laughed at Gilmore Girls in a long time. That was so funny. Anyways Christopher is way better from Lorelai that Luke is. Like that one lady said at the end of 6th season some things are just not ment to be.

  10. You people complaining realize that it’s the same writers and directors as last year? This week’s episode was written by a woman who has been writing on the show for years. It’s not going to change that much using the same staff just because Palladino is gone.

  11. The new season is like a different show. Bad girls (not in the fun sense). Although typing this now I realize it began with the whole first Luke Lor breakup and then his daugter. No man keeps a horoscope 8 years and then acts like this. He deserves Rory’s loyalty more than Chris.
