Brandon Jennings continues to clean up

A blog is an opinion based entity, I do not pretend to have a ‘breaking news’ type of site. Rather, this is a place to voice opinions about the news going on around recruiting which other sites more effectively compile and report.

The accolades have been building up all season long for Oak Hill Academy’s Brandon Jennings. Now that the season is over and done with, award ceremonies are about the become as normal to Jennings as shootarounds and wind sprints at practice. Here is what Jennings is ready to accept:

EA Sports Player of the Year – Before the McDonald’s All-American game that Jennings participated in which he fell one assist shy of a double-double, Jennings led the EA Sports POY voting by 10 points over Campbell Hall’s Jrue Holiday – garnering seven first place votes to Holiday’s two. It is a rather safe bet to say that Jennings did little to knock himself off the podium.

PARADE Magazine Player of the Year – The PARADE Magazine has been putting out All-American teams for more than two of my lifetimes, so when they announce that a player has won their POY award, the accolade surely sticks out. When a site like hoopsworld.com takes notice enough to throw phrases like:

Jennings, the 6-foot-2, left-handed point guard, demonstrated star power this season at Oak Hill, where he draws comparisons to Allen Iverson of the Denver Nuggets and is believed to be “one of the top 10 players ever” at Oak Hill Academy.

and
Now he’s joining the best of the best for PARADE: The NBA currently boasts 154 former PARADE All-Americans including Shaquille O’Neal, Allen Iverson, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant, who was PARADE¹s Player of the Year in 1998.

You start to see just how serious of a pull this looks like it should be at Arizona.

Max Preps Player of the Year – This one is not a sure thing, but from the way that MaxPreps writers, Mitch Stephens and Stephen Spiewak write about Jennings and his candidacy in this article, it appears as though he has a good amount of chance to win the award

The talk of the camp was the West’s backcourt which featured no less than five native Golden Staters, led by pretty much everyone’s Player of the Year Brandon Jennings, who left Los Angeles to ramp it up at Oaks Hill Academy. He’s THE single-season leading scorer all-time at THE Academy 35.4 points per game.

and

I certainly can’t deny the talent of the California back court burners. I saw Jrue Holiday go head-to-head with Brandon Jennings at the Elite 24, and came away impressed with Holiday’s poise and Jennings’ flash.

I would be terribly surprised if Jennings did not walk away with that piece of award hardware as well.

Not only has Jennings just about cleaned up every major award through the country for his play this season at Oak Hill, he also has brought Oak Hill in to the top-10 final rankings on Rivals.com’s FAB 50. That, coupled with his pre-eminent talk about trying to break the all-time assists record for the McDonald’s All-American game ought to dissuade those people that think Jennings has no business playing in a team basketball atmosphere.

Lots of links to wade through up there, so have at it – and while you’re at it, what do you think of Jennings coming to UA next year? He likely is a one-and-done player in Tucson next season, so try to enjoy it while you can.
