Napolitano getting hammered in Canada

04/22/2009 02:03 PM
Daniel Scarpinato

It didn’t take long for Janet Napolitano to get pulled into another flap after last week’s leak of a documented detailing “right-wing extremist.”

And this time the dust-up is international.

The Canadian press is hammering the homeland security secretary over some comments she made about our northern neighbor.

In an interview Tuesday, the former Arizona governor suggested that the Sept. 11 terrorists entered the U.S. through Canada — which is not true.

And that didn’t go over well with Canadians, leading Napolitano to eventually say she misunderstood the question and clarify that she knows that no 9/11 terrorists came in through Canada.

“There are other instances … when suspected terrorists have attempted to enter our country from Canada to the United States,” she said in a statement. “Some of these are well known to the public, such as the millennium bomber, while others are not due to security reasons.”

Still, that didn’t stop the conservative National Post from penning an editorial titled “The border for dummies.”

“Can someone please tell us how U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano got her job?” the paper wrote. “She appears to be about as knowledgeable about border issues as a late-night radio call-in yahoo.”

CBC News has a detailed piece saying that Napolitano made matters worse by suggesting that the Mexican and Canadian borders should be treated the same.

Editorial writers at the Globe and Mail were a little kinder than the staff at the Post

The paper said Napolitano “surely did not intend to ignite controversy by suggesting that the perpetrators of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks had entered her country through Canada.” But they added, “that does not excuse her apparent ignorance of the U.S.-Canadian border.”

“There are vastly greater problems of drug trafficking and illegal immigration at the Americans’ southern border,” the paper wrote. “At a time when there are grave concerns about impeding the flow of trade, Ms. Napolitano would benefit from a more informed and nuanced understanding of her country’s points of entry.”

  1. Wrong-way napolitano was incompetent as governor of Arizona and she is even more incompetent at DHS. Just as TAX CHEAT geithner symbolizes the absence of integrity and ethics in the hussein regime, wrong-way symbolizes its gross incompetence.

  2. I find it interesting the words “incompetent,” “integrity,” and “ethics” all showed up in #1’s response. Considering we have just passed the 100th day since President Obama took the oath of office (meaning his cabinet members have been on the job less time), and we had eight years of repeated gross incompetence, complete lack of integrity, and plain ignorance of ethical behavior in the previous administration, it might be worth cutting Obama and his appointees some slack. That being said, this clearly is not one of Napolitano’s finest hours.

  3. Like so many others these days…stuff just comes out of her mouth, not until later does she realize what was said…

  4. WAM! BAM! Knock that newbie Homeland Security Secretary down! An effective governor does not guarantee an effective “secretary.” However, the Canadian and American press could possibly refrain from spewing harsh statements to boost newspaper sales and/or TV/radio ratings. What am I thinking? KICK her when she’s down!

  5. Canadians need to relax. I say make’em get visas just like our neighbors to the south. When Chinese boat people land in Canada, the Canadians release them and show them the way south. There are thousands of Canadians working in the U.S. doing jobs that Americans can and will do. That’s thousands of Americans unemployed because of Canadians. So as far as I’m concerned, they can ride outta town on the high horse they rode in on.

  6. She has no grasp of the subject matter. We wanted change and we got it. Is the change for the better, so far I think not.

…true, but i don’t remember his having so much trouble filling his cabinet with ethical, qualified people… i mean… nobody got popped for failure to file taxes.

  9. I’d say Canadians are pretty savvy folks.
They figured out in a couple of days what the majority of Arizona voters didn’t realize after eight years.
    Go Canada!

  10. Its called a reactive flame building mistake. Amazing how Americans are so chomping at the bit to lynch somebody and take them right down. Its embarrassing really. Nothing noble about this tried and true American response.

  11. never did pay her any attention but always suspected she was a dud that i would just have to live with..but shes a liberal so will get all love

  13. She is absolutely correct. Any knowledgable person would see that hardening the Mexican border while leaving the Canadian border weak invites disaster. (It would drive penetrators to the weakest point – clearly Canada) Or are our mouthy neighbors to the north prepared to prevent the above scenario – I didnt think so.

The only rational solution is to treat – wait for it – a border as a border.

The Canadians can shove it …. eh?

  14. Responsible Congressmen will soon call for her resignation. She appears ill equipped for this job.

    B Freider    04/22/2009 08:07 PM    #
  15. The goal of this administration is to eliminate opposition. Janet is just in tune with the music in the White House. We need to choose which side we want to be on.

  16. Obama, thank you for getting her out of Arizona. Next year she will be unemployed and living in San Fran.

  17. She needs to be sued for violation of civil rights. She is a government official who is trying to take away free speech. Just like her boss, she’s trampling all over our Constitution. BTW, I’m a vet, pro-life, pro-gun, limited government, right wing extremist.

  18. Canada, our 51st state.
What do we care what THEY say?

  19. Janet was incompetent as the governor of Arizona and she is even more incompetent at DHS. Just remember, those of us who disagree with the current Administration are considered domestic terrorists!!!

  20. Boy, am I glad that J-Nap does not hold a position of importance in this government. After insulting almost everyone she could in this country, she moved on to our congenial neighbors to the north and ignores the incoming flood of drugs, illegals, terrorists, and God knows what else to the south.

If I didn’t know any better, I would say that she is OK with losing the illegal Canadian votes when running for the Senate. God forbid she loses the illegal Mexican vote. That is, if we still have a country after she and Obama are done groveling to every tin-pot dictator and “overseas freedom fighter” they can find.

Like I said, I am glad she has no real responsibility…

  21. #2 It doesn’t make any difference how long these incompetent people are on the job. And they have previous experience since most are Clinton re-treads. Is is time for a change, start with Napolitano, then Geitner, then keep going until you get to Obama. Only 2 years, 256 days until we can have change to believe in.

    Woody    04/22/2009 10:12 PM    #
  22. Hey Jim 4% of your population consists of illegals. All the 9/11 terrorists came from Saudi Arabia.

Most of your imported oil comes from Canada and one day you’ll be needing our water so play nice!

She is absolutely correct. Any knowledgable person would see that hardening the Mexican border while leaving the Canadian border weak invites disaster. 23. The Obamanation has appointed some real incompetent dirtbags, but Crappy Nappy takes the cake. The first indication that the scurrilous dolt was gonna be off the wall is when she had a coronary about CBP actually doing their jobs and busting a bunch of job thieves in Bellingham, Wash. They did the job so well that this incompetent boob suspended all workplace raids. Bright idea, eh? It’s been downhill ever since.

Contact your congresscritter at (800) 833-6354 and demand this nut job be ousted. Vicente Fox would do a better job than this CFR hack.

  24. Janet Napolitano should be removed from office. She is a disgrace and is a danger to U.S.

  25. Does Napolitano have dual citizenship US – Israeli ?

  26. The NWO puppet in the White House couldn’t have picked a bigger loser to run DHS. How safe does the old bat make you feel when she goes on national TV (CNN) and tells the host that sneaking into the country to squat and filch is NOT a crime? It IS a crime, of course: Section 1325 of the federal immigration laws (Title 8, U.S. Code), makes it a misdemeanor on a first offense and a felony thereafter.

I’ve already faxed my senators and congressman demanding her removal.

  27. Napolitano’s poor performance as a governor is another example of a politican pandering for votes from what she thinks is her main constituency – Hispanics, legal and illegal. Her even poorer performance as head of DHS is an example of yet another of Obama’s minions who have their face so far up Obama’s a$$ they can’t see what’s actually going on in this country. I’m definitely with the Canadians on this one.

    Hercules    04/23/2009 08:11 AM    #
  28. Ms Napolitano is nothing more than a progressive political whore. She took the state of Arizona to the brink of bankruptcy from overflowing coffers she accepted when elected to the governorship of that state. She fought tooth and nail with her butt brother AG Woods to thwart the will of the people of Arizona over the illegal immigration issue. Like George Bush, John McCain and Barry Soetoro, she does not give a damn about the people of the United States or its founding documents.

    Jim McMullen    04/23/2009 09:43 AM    #
  29. Criminals, tax cheats and incompetents, that’s the Soetoro administration. Let’s hope they break protocal and go after Bush and his corrupt cronies, then we will have a reason to go after Nancy and Barry next.
I won’t feel right until all of them are imprisoned for what they did. All of them.
Where’s Lee Harvey when you need him?

  30. Our borders security is to be taken seriously. If unauthorized people camped out in your backyard you would call the police to get them out, no matter how good or bad their intentions were. Let’s protect our country the same way, it is all of our backyards.

    Vito Ramanauskas    04/23/2009 10:25 AM    #
  31. So sad that our secretary of Homeland Security does not know that entering America without documentation is a CRIME! And she is one of our leaders?

  32. Too bad there isn’t a JW Booth and a Ford theater that Janet might find her way to.

    Warrei    04/23/2009 04:37 PM    #
  33. First, I’m an American, neither a Democrat nor a Republican. The high level of incompetent in the American government is to be expected because they are not very bright.
