Black duffel shuts down Sierra Vista post office

A suspicious black duffel bag suddenly appeared at the U.S. post office in Sierra Vista Tuesday morning.

Not knowing where the mysterious duffel bag came from or what it might contain, the U.S. Postmaster called police, who in turn called upon the FBI, a Sierra Vista Police Department press release says.

And what’d the FBI do? They asked for a Department of Public Safety bomb squad to respond from Tucson with a portable x-ray machine to find out just what the heck was in the black bag.

What they found was clothing, shoes and photo albums.

Sierra Vista officers responded to the post office at 2300 E. Fry Blvd. about 7:30 a.m., the release says. At the Postmaster’s request, police evacuated the post and cordoned off an area for several hours until it was determined the suspicious duffel contained nothing dangerous.
