Two people were displaced and one suffered smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at a Northwest Side apartment complex Thursday night.

The two-alarm blaze caused an estimated $20,000 in damage, said Capt. Adam Goldberg, a spokesman for the Northwest Fire/Rescue District.

The fire, which occurred at 7374 N. Mona Lisa Road, just west of the Foothills Mall, was reported at about 9:25 p.m., he said. It took 39 firefighters nearly 50 minutes to get the blaze under control.

It began in a second-floor apartment that was being prepared for new tenants, Goldberg said. The apartment below it sustained water damage and is also uninhabitable.

Ten people were evacuated from the building but all were able to go back inside late Thursday, he said. One elderly woman suffered smoke inhalation but was treated at the scene and released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
