Sheriff's department releases photos of car involved in El Tour de Tucson collision

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department released photos of the car that was involved in a collision Saturday near the Westward Look Resort.
The driver of the car struck a group of bicyclists while they were riding in the El Tour de Tucson. Five of the bicyclists were injured, including one who was listed in critical condition.
If this man had hit a car with a child in it, and the child was in the hospital, he would be in jail.
There are only two reasonable reasons he is not:
1: He is rich and has someone in his pocket
2: Bicyclist are not considered important enough to enforce laws.
Fact: This no response by the Sheriff’s Department will cost this city thousand of dollars next year when this gets national attention and bikers will boycott the Tour next year.
Maybe that is what some people want and hope happens.
Disgusting, horrible? There just are not words to describe how bad this is and how bad the city and tour look.
The man that was involved in this hit and run incident during the El Tour appears to be responsible for a Class 4 Felony according to Arizona State Law (ARS 28-661).
Leaving the scene of an accident where there was a serious injury or death (regardless of fault) is the definition by the Arizona statute and has a potential sentence of up to 2 1/2 years in prison. In addition, this statute states that if the driver is found to be at fault for the accident, it is raised to a Class 3 Felony and can lead to a sentence of up to 3 1/2 years. Finally, being convicted under this statute can also lead to a suspension of driving privileges for 3-5 years.
I believe it’s time for some accountability for these types of actions by irresponsible individuals.
It certainly is questionalbe weather a person should be allowed to operate a motor vehicle at the age of 91 years.
There really is no question that as a person ages all of their senses become weaker and less sharp. Their motor-skills are slower and their ability to make quick and accurate decisions are affected, the kind necessary to operate a motor vehicle safely. This is certain.
Just as it is absolutely certain that bicycles have NO place on the roadways intended for motor vehicles.
The difference is these people on bicycles are most typically not of an age that their sensibility is affected by the aging process.
No, indeed these people truly incapable of making intelligent decisions.
We most certainly should address the issue of age as it interfaces with a license to operate a motor vehicle just as we should address the extreme and totally unnecessary hazard that bicycles and their most unintelligent operators impose upon vehicular traffic.
I do not understand why more traffic control or security personnel are not provided at key locations such as this where traffic control problems are most likely? Hotels? Resorts? Shopping malls? Major traffic intersections? All these bicyclists versus normal motorized vehicle drivers? Can we say lack of planning by the race sponsors, race participants, not to mention the City of Tucson, law enforcement, and all of us, the driving public? We ALL share responsibility for this incident.
I do not understand why there has been no action at all on this. What message is the Sheriff’s department and the City of Tucson sending to the public. It’s OK to run down your fellow man or woman if they are on a bicycle. Maybe Dave is part of the Sheriff’s department.
PS: Dave I pay taxes too for the roads. The El Tour brings millions into the Tucson economy. Your a SAD selfish human being.
Dave: please read Az statues pertaining to the rules of the road and cyclists. Also, I believe there is a marked bike lane on Ina rd. There’s plenty of room to Share the Road!
It is outrageous that this man is able to remain anonymous and has not been charged, at least, with leaving the scene of an accident.
He must be in someone’s pocket. This stinks.
If he didn’t have a lawyer he’d already be arraigned.
