A 24-year-old man was sentenced to six months in federal prison Wednesday for lying about making purchases with money belonging to the Bureau of Prisons.

Tristin Napoleon Watson of Maricopa was sentenced in a Tucson courtroom after pleading guilty to making false statements to a federal agency, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The sentence stems from an internal investigation of two Bureau of Prisons employees involving the compromise of a government procurement card, which allows authorized users to make purchases on behalf of an agency.

In November 2006, a procurement card assigned to an employee at the Tucson Federal Correctional Institution was used to purchase eight professional football tickets and a parking pass, for a combined total of $2,678.95.

While Watson is not a federal employee and was not authorized to use the card, authorities determined he made the purchases, the release said. The Bureau of Prisons employees were cleared.
