Professional boxer-turned-
comedian Joey Medina, who
returns to Laffs Comedy Caffe in
Tucson this weekend, was still
wet behind the ears when he
embarked on Paul Rodriguez's
Latin Kings of Comedy Tour in
the 1990s.

Although Medina got his start at
Laffs in 20 years ago, the Latin
Kings of Comedy Tour was the
turning point in his career,
launching him to the upper
echelon of Latin comedy.

What other unknown Latin comic
appearing on the Latin Kings of
Comedy bill went on to succeed
Rodriguez as the king?

Phil Villarreal has worked for the Daily Star since birth, but he's been the movie critic since February 2001. You could say he's a fan of the cinema. Each day he wakes up to a plate of steaming scrambled movies, which he washes down with a glass of movie juice, all while watching a movie. In his free time he plays video games and watches movies. He has written a novel, "Stormin' Mormon."

Stuck in the Xbox Undertow (updated)

Phil Villarreal

What an emotional rollercoaster Xbox Live has been over the past several weeks.

-Xbox Live goes down randomly during an online game of “College Hoops 2K8” – BOO!

-Microsoft announces it will give gamers a free XBL Arcade game for their trouble – YAY!

-The game is “Undertow” – which I already own – BOO!

-But in Kotaku’s story on the event, a Microsoft official declared that those who own “Undertow” will be compensated in another way if they call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX – YAY!

-So I call the number and am told that the story is wrong. The service rep, who won’t reveal his name, asks me for Kotaku’s Web address so he can look it up himself. I’m on hold for 20 minutes, then told he can’t find the story. He says he’s never heard of the site, which I attribute to the fact (judging from his voice) that he lives in India – BOO!

-I ask for a supervisor, who tells me the story is correct, and I’ll be compensated with 800 Microsoft points – YAY!

-But then he tells me he has no record of me downloading “Undertow,” so I get nothing. I tell him I downloaded it, but he says “I do not believe you.” I ask to speak to his boss, but he says he has none. I ask him if he’s the owner of Microsoft. He says no, but he has no boss and that if I want to speak to anyone else, I’ll have to find my own way to do so. I ask him his name, and he says it’s Rob. I ask for his last name, and he says he can’t give it out. I ask Rob why this is so if he has no boss, and he says it’s because it’s Microsoft policy. I ask why he feels the need to follow policy if he has no boss and can do whatever he wants. He replies “I CAN do whatever I want. But it is Microsoft policy not to give out last names.” I ask Rob for a reference number and he gives me 1056305986. I have no 800 points and no respect for Rob, or Microsoft for not giving Rob a boss. BOO!
