Every year brings another entry
in the "Call of Duty" franchise.
We reviewed the newest game,
"Call of Duty: World at War" in
this week's issue of Caliente.

The games, which are most often
set during World War II, let
players revisit history.

The newest installment focuses
on the final battles of World War
II in the Pacific and Eastern
Europe.

In addition to testing your own
skill, the "Call of Duty" games are
also social endeavors. Players
from around the world can come
together as teams to take on all
comers.

Even though the new "Call of
Duty" is a solid effort, it doesn't
live up to last year's edition,
which updated the setting. What
was the title of the 2007 "Call of
Duty" game?

Those who answer correctly will
have a chance to win a kids DVD.
Titles include "Avatar," "Ben 10,"
"Bratz" and "SpongeBob
Squarepants."

Phil Villarreal has worked for the Daily Star since birth, but he's been the movie critic since February 2001. You could say he's a fan of the cinema. Each day he wakes up to a plate of steaming scrambled movies, which he washes down with a glass of movie juice, all while watching a movie. In his free time he plays video games and watches movies. He has written a novel, "Stormin' Mormon."

On the cutting-room floor

Right-winger David Zucker swings for the liberal-bashing fences in “An American Carol,” but his most controversial scene understandably didn’t make it into the movie.

Zucker had a Ted Kennedy look-alike offer a ride to someone at a convention. When he opened the car door, water spilled out. It’s a reference to the 1969 incident in which Kennedy drove off a bridge with Mary Jo Kopechne as his passenger. Kennedy survived but Kopechne died.

Zucker no doubt decided to cut the scene because of Kennedy’s struggles with brain cancer.

I got that tidbit from former Tucsonan Jillian Murray, who has a role in the film.

“It was a cool stunt,” she said. “Fish were coming out.”

  1. Looks like Tucson won’t even make the cutting room floor for Transformers 2.

Any word on why the scene was cut?

  2. Btw, I knew about Ted Kennedy and his cancer struggles – I was asking why the Transformers 2 scene was cut (they told a lot of the extras that the airport scene was cancelled).

Just so you don’t think I’m totally outa touch.
