Jerryd Bayless was hurt when most of the voters for the Naismith and Wooden Award’s Top 30 selections probably began compiling their votes. Or maybe they happened to catch that national broadcast of the Stanford game, when Bayless was bothered by a pair of ill-fitting shoes.
In any case, Bayless was left off both of the Top 30 lists and Chase Budinger made both of them. As UA grad Daniel Dickey has posted several message boards, both Bayless and Cal’s Ryan Anderson have significant statistical arguments to be there—and that doesn’t even get into the intangible effect Bayless appears to have on the Wildcats.
But it really doesn’t make much difference. Even the Wooden people say you don’t have to be on it to make their postseason honors because they probably know, as we all do, that college basketball names are really made in March.
In case you haven’t seen them, here’s the Wooden Award list and here’s the Naismith list.

Bayless was out for four games. He’s only 20 games into his college career (including the four missed). He’ll get plenty of recognition before its over, and sometimes it’s for the best when a player has to wait for it. No doubt he’ll earn it.

Ugh, still remember that defense after Utah threw that at us in the 1998 Elite Eight.

U.S.C. will be an immense challenge for Coach O’Neil’s squad. Simply because the Trojans have been holding foes under 40% FG shooting on the defensive side of the hardwood. And in contrast, the Wildcat’s are quickly becoming one of the better FG shooting percentage teams in the PAC-10. So, something is going to give tonight.
A little tidbit for the still doubting Wildcat cheerleaders on this forum. Coach Floyd has praised Arizona’s offense schemes and indicated that Coach 0’Neil has made life difficult for opposing teams, lately, due to their spacing on the offensive side of the court.
So, this is one loyal Wildcat major college hoopdom fandom who will state that Arizona win’s a tight game in the Galen Center tonight. As the script has been going most of the season, this game won’t be decided until the final minute. I just HOPE the zebra’s let both teams play- this will be one major indicator if the Wildcat’s are to win tonight. O’Neil needs Hill on the floor albeit the Trojans don’t present the frontcourt trouble, which the Bruins will for Arizona Saturday night.

Matt (DC): Who do you think will be the most dangerous teams (who are outside the top-10 right now) come tournament time?
Andy Katz: Xavier, Kansas State, USC, Arizona, Ole Miss, Connecticut.

USC might think that if they can take one of them out of their game and force a bad night, they could control the game. If both go off like they did against the Wash. schools, USC has little chance.
I hope Arizona plays loose and as a team tonight. There is a lot of pressure for Arizona on this road trip. A 16-6 record looks a heck of a lot better than a 14-8 record. At least with a split Arizona would have an over .500 record in conference and have won 4 out of their last 5 with an upcoming 3 game homestand.

It’s so extremely difficult to win on the road in major college hoopdom. Especially at venues such as the City of Angel schools. Remember, remember this loyal Wildcat devotee’s. The Wildcat’s haven’t been successful at U.S.C. the past three trips there albeit team unity had an immense say on the outcome in both 2006 and 2007.
Nonetheless, not playing the overconfident eternal optimist card. I abso-LUTE-ly believe Arizona will come away with a victory por la noche – the latter palabras are dedicated to Mark. LMFAO!!!
Look for Wise to be the unsung hero tonight. The Trojans have a very weak bench, which will favor Coach O’Neil’s squad. Matter of fact, if both teams are in foul trouble the team who get’s the most scoring production out of their respective benches will reign victorious.
Arizona 70, Trojans 67!!!

Spreads right now are:
UA
USC -3.5
ASU
UCLA -14
Some of the wise guys here are taking ASU.
I like Washington getting 2 points at home against Stanford.

JMAC! Chase is emerging as the star we expected. He’s healthy and seems over his virus. Bayless did well on Mayo. Mayo took a lot of shots to score his points, not to mention B stepped back in frustration and complimented others tonight. And Wise and Hill played a significant role tonight. One regret, I would have liked to see more of Fendi. I like this team and their team play.
GO CATS!
