UA camp to bring in prospects

Lute Olson is scheduled to arrive back in office Thursday, just in time for the UA’s annual “advanced skills camp.”

This is not a coincidence, of course. The camp will bring in several of UA’s top recruiting targets in the classes of 2009, 2010 and 2011. Among those relatively certain to arrive: Wing Anthony Brown, point guard Gary Franklin , wing Tyler Lamb, Santa Rita point guard Terrell Stoglin and Gilbert Highland shooting guard Nick Johnson .

It is also possible that highly regarded California center Anthony Stover, Phoenix guard Daniel Bejarano and Greek prospect Thanasis Eioakimiduis may participate. Gilbert Highland guard Matt Carlino is also on the fence.

While the skills camps gives UA an invaluable chance to get guys on campus — and familiar with the coaches and players — it isn’t always easy to lure players away in August. Many of them are exhausted after going through the spring and summer circuits with their traveling teams. Committed UA recruit Mike Moser, who played in the Global Challenge last weekend in Portland, said he may just rest this weekend. (Here’s a link to an Oregonian video of him at the event.)

The Wildcats also hope to bring back some of their former players for a spirited pick-up game on Friday afternoon, as they have in past years. Among those who might attend are Hassan Adams, Channing Frye, Luke Walton, Richard Jefferson and Mike Bibby (more as I know it…)

  2. This camp is an important event, noticed nation-wide by recruits and our competition. It is like old-home week, with so many of our wonderful players getting together, and advising the assistant coaches on potential recruits.
We look forward to this terrific event every year.
