Caliente Contest
This week's Spotlight focuses on the Austin, Texas-based rock band White Denim, which is scheduled to play Club Congress Saturday.

White Denim's lead singer is James Petralli, whose father is former major league catcher Geno Petralli.

Geno Petralli played 12 seasons for the Rangers and Blue Jays.

Petralli led all of baseball in passed balls with 35 in 1987, 20 in 1988, and 20 in 1990. His 35 passed balls established a Major League single-season record.

Most of Petralli's past balls occurred when he was catching a famous knuckleball pitcher.

For a chance to win an audio book tell us the name of that knuckleballer, who pitched until he was 46 years old.

'The Twilight Saga: New Moon' sets record before its release

11/17/2009 05:41 PM
M Scot Skinner

“The Twilight Saga: New Moon” swoops into theaters at 12:01 a.m. Friday, but the sophomore vamp flick is breaking records already.

Fandango announced Tuesday that “New Moon” is now its biggest advance ticket seller in history. It beat out “Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith,” which is second. “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” is third, “The Dark Knight” fourth and the original installment, “Twilight,” is fifth.

Advance sales are pumping big time around here, too.

The first couple of screenings at Tower Theatres at Arizona Pavilions are already sold out, said managing partner Kent Edwards, who will be showing the film on up to six screens.

“Last year, when the first ‘Twilight’ opened, we sold 300 tickets to the midnight screening. We’ve more than doubled that, and we’re still a few days away,” he said.

Loaded with shirtless shapeshifters, “New Moon” also will show at El Con, Park Place, Foothills, Century Park, Marketplace and Harkins Spectrum. A review will run in Friday’s Star.
