Kenny Chesney can swoon a tear out of the most hardened heart, but don’t expect a lot of lovey-dovey, cry-in-my-beer ballads when he and his cohorts play the University of Phoenix Stadium on Saturday.
In a phone interview from his tour bus last Friday, the country superstar said his stadium show is off-the-charts high-energy. He plans to squeeze in two, maybe three ballads, he said. He recently added his Top 10 single âBetter As A Memoryâ to the playlist, and âI may do âBlue Chair,â Iâm not sure. For the most part, itâs a high-energy show,” he said.
Chesney’s Glendale stop is one of 14 stadium concerts he will do this year.
“Iâve gotten more used to” playing stadiums, he said. “The first year we did it about three or four years ago there was a learning curve just in connecting with everybody. I think me and the guys have that down now. We spent so much time playing arenas and outdoor amphitheaters, we were pretty comfortable with ourselves up there on stage. Then all of a sudden we had another 20,000 to 30,000 people to sing to. It was a little different. Plus, there was a lot more ground to cover for me, and thatâs tough âcause I canât sit still and listen to music at the same time. But they are great right now. The crowds are amazing. Itâs a lot of fun to watch.â
Saturday’s concert runs from 3-11 p.m. The lineup includes Keith Urban, Sammy Hagar, Gary Allan and LeAnn Rimes.
