Clay Hensley, who gave up No. 755, unwittingly became the face of pitchers who have been caught using steroids.
Milestones of outstanding achievement were reached by three great players this weekend. And there was a fourth milestone that went mostly – no, totally unnoticed until now. Last week I wrote my 175th blog entry. And I did it with absolutely no help from steroids. Well, maybe some Cortaid and definitely some Doctor Burt’s Res-Q Ointment, but I’m pretty sure there are no banned substances in that.
Anyway, to celebrate, I’ll let other writers do the work for me. (So, what else is new, right?)
The Mercury News’ Andrew Baggarly did a nice job of summing up Barry Bonds’ 755th home run on a pitch from a former juicer in front of appreciative fans in San Diego and a not-so-appreciative Bud Selig.
The New York Post’s Michael Morrissey describes Alex Rodriguez’s 500th homer, which hopefully will help the fans who don’t appreciate what they have in A-Rod realize what they soon may lose. That is a baseball hero who could reclaim the home run crown for the Yankee kingdom.
Finally, the New York Post’s Mark Hale rounds out the trifecta with a write-up of Tom Glavine’s 300th victory.
Well done, guys. I couldn’t have said it better myself.
