Marcus Williams back in NBA ... for now

To fill out its training camp roster, the Charlotte Bobcats have signed ex-Arizona Wildcats swing man Marcus Williams, which may not necessarily be good news for him.

The Bobcats have 17 players on their roster entering Tuesday’s start to training camp. Williams, who has had difficulty exhibiting maturity and productivity, will be coached by the ageless Larry Brown, whose stock-in-trade is, gulp, a preference for experienced, productive players.

Williams played a bit part for the L.A. Clippers at the end of the ’07-08 season after leaving college following two modestly successful seasons.

In training camp, Williams will be opposed on the wing by former Gonzaga gunner Adam Morrison, superstar Jason Richardson and 11-year veteran Derek Anderson of Kentucky.

He will also be pitted against Boston College’s second-year wing, Jared Dudley, in a battle for a roster spot.

Don’t expect Williams to get the benefit of the doubt from the demanding Mr. Brown.

  3. All you UofA fans that hate on Marcus Williams, are just dumb, he is a great player and will be on this roster when its all said and done. Stop hating and fire Lute, you guys couldnt pay Brandon Jennings enough thats why he didnt go, I dont care about grades. Marcus Williams will be a legit force in the NBA.

  4. What a well-reasoned, thoughtful post by the Marcus Williams fan club. Is Marcus himself the only member and thus also the author?

  6. Hi Greg, I enjoy reading your articles and looking at your picture, at least it is one way of keeping in touch with my neat Nephew! Hope all is well with your family.
p.s. Your Mom is doing fine, I am just trying to keep up with her, I hope I have her genes…

  7. I hope Marcus makes it. Yeah, he left UofA too early, but he seems to be “good” enough to keep getting legitimate looks by the NBA. And he’s still young. I don’t know him and so don’t know what drives him or what he was like as a ‘Cat teammate. But on the right NBA team…
