E85 available at another Tucson station

One of the alternative fuels available to drivers with the right type of engine is E85, a blend of ethanol and petroleum. The 10th location in Southern Arizona to sell the fuel is at Irvington and Houghton.

To promote the new fuel at the Quick Mart, the station will sell E85 for $1.85 per gallon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 25. That’s a deal because the national average for E85 is $3.24 per gallon. The price in Tucson has been ranging from $3.09 to 3.45 per gallon. The fluctuation is because the blend is 15 percent petroleum with 85 percent ethanol, and because the E85 fuel is generally transported by vehicles using petroleum-based fuel, said Colleen Crowninshield, the Tucson Clean Cities Coalition program manager.

If you need even more incentive to fuel up at the low price, or just check things out, a local radio station plans to broadcast live and the station plans to sell a cheap lunch, too. The lunch is $1.85 for a jumbo hot dog, small bag of chips and a 32-oz drink. The first 50 customers will also get some free gear, including E85 T-shirts.

E85 is also available at:

  • West Tangerine Road and North Dove Mountain Road
  • West Ruthrauff Road and North La Cholla Boulevard
  • North First Avenue and East Mitchell Street (a block south of Glenn)
  • North Alvernon Way and East Pima Street
  • South Cherry Avenue between East 21st and East 22nd streets
  • East Ajo Way and South Stadium Loop
  • East Golf Links Road and South Pantano Parkway
  • West Sahuarita Road and South Via Rancho Sahuarita
  • 1780 W. Highway 70, in Safford (near South 20th Avenue)
  • newest location- East Irvington Road and South Houghton Road

For more information, contact Colleen Crowninshield, the Tucson Clean Cities Coalition program manager, at ccrowninshield@pagnet.org.

  1. I’m sure I’ve seen e85 at the Gas City at Valencia and Houghton also.
