New electric and solar vehicle at UA

The University of Arizona’s Parking and Transportation Services has a new truck which runs on electric and solar power. The oddly-named vehicle, a Xebra Zap Truck, will be part of the enforcement and operations fleet, a Parking and Transportation Services news release said. (Zap is the brand, Xebra the model)

The truck costs 3-cents per mile to operate, can go as far as 40 miles at up to 40-miles-per-hour, doesn’t produce any emissions and can operate as a flatbed or dump truck, the release said.

“With the recent increases in the cost of oil and increasing concern about the environment and the effects of global warming, PTS believes that there is a need for these type of electric trucks,” said Bill Davidson, Parking and Transportation Services spokesman.
