Bike sharing a hit at the political conventions

A company brought the idea of bike-sharing to the political conventions in Denver and St. Paul and says it was a big hit.

The Freewheelin bike-sharing program got more than 7,000 rides during the eight convention days last week and this week.

The company loaned more than $1 million in equipment to the convention sharing programs so attendees could jump on a bike, tool around the city, and return it without renting a car, taking a cab or figuring out a bus schedule. Some cities have tried similar programs.
