Best use of a timeout EVER12/02/2008 12:21 PM
Ryan Finley If you like old-timey uniforms, and tradition, then this is for you. USC coach Pete Carroll said Monday that his team will forfeit a timeout so it can wear its red home jerseys in the rivalry game against UCLA. This isn’t a motivational tactic as much as a nod to the past: The Bruins and Trojans wore their home jerseeys for the rivalry game for years, and as recently as 1982 for games. LOVING it. Meh…..USC could throw out all of their time outs and will still dismantle the Bruins.
How ‘bout this Finley….use your connections to get the word out to the Arizona Athletic Dept. that they should do a huge tribute to Larry Smith. He hated ASU as much as anyone in this town. They should dig up some sort of old speech with him rallying the old guard to use as a rally for the new guard.

I seriously doubt that this is only about “tradition”.
Thats a good cover, but I think its a way for Carroll to motivate his players, and more than that, a way for him to send a message to potential recruits.
No doubt it also has a little to do with UCLA’s posturing at the beginning of the season that “the football monopoly is finally over”

Pete Carroll is a type A personality, and by nature, extremely competitive. He surley knows that wearing your home uni’s in someone elses house is BB material, no matter what “history” there is. Especially when you are completely un-concerned about losing 2 TO’s, just to wear them. That is a huge poke in the eye.
UCLA would be crazy not to milk it for all its worth. Maybe pull out the white uni’s for your team, and tell them that they can earn the right to wear their colors when they finally beat SC?

Then why does Ricky agree to it and agree to burn a time out at the beginning of the game. NCAA also relented and are only taking one TO from USC. I think very creative and cool to go back to the old tradations of this rivalry of the LA coliseum.

I think Someone Needs to bring down Pete and USC back to earth. Lets hope Washington gets a good coach, Rick out recruits him, as does Dennis.
Its bad enough they cheat by paying their players thru agents but acting like king of the hill, well someone will rip those jerseys off them soon and bloody them up in the process.
