Help for pets affected by foreclosure

04/24/2008 10:03 AM

Now that more families are facing foreclosure, and having to abandon animals, the Humane Society of the United States has established a grant fund to help the pets.

The fund would provide grants to local animal groups to expand programs designed to help people keep their pets, or otherwise provide resources to those groups. To find out more, visit this site

Shelters in general are having to cope with larger numbers of abandoned animals because of rising foreclosures, according to the organization. But even worse are the instances of animals left to fend for themselves after families leave. The Humane Society urges families to take animals to rescue shelters if they have no where else to take them.

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona is located at 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd.
