Happy day off, Raytheon employees

08/01/2007 12:10 PM
Shelley Shelton

More than 9,000 Raytheon employees were told by the company to stay home from work today due to a power outage caused by problems at the Tucson Electric Power Co. South Side substation.

Are you one of those who got a surprise day off?

How did you find out? How are you spending the time?

Working from home? Hanging with your kids? Getting much-needed housework done? Going shopping?

We’d love to hear how you spent your grownup version of a snow day. Go ahead and comment.

  1. Yard work, kicking back, napping, running errands… All the things I play to do everyday starting next week. The bad part of having today off is missing my “retirement cake get-together” this afternoon. Hope the power is back on tomorrow so i can process out.

  2. Unfortunately, I found out after I had already been at work for a while and just had to drive back home.
But I did get a chance to do some much needed work on my car followed by some relaxing on the couch. So it wasn’t all bad.

  3. As an early-morning part-timer, I spent about half of my usual work hours waiting for the power to come back on before the announcement was made. While I felt bothered about all that wasted time, it is always nice to be able to go home early to be with my infant son. I was also able to save my husband a trip to work by giving him updates over the phone. We all spent the rest of the day together, relaxing at home and taking care of a couple of much needed appointments.
