Create Cafe, which for years was at Grant & Craycroft, is about to celebrate its 10th anniversary in business. Late last year the cafe moved to Swan and Camp Lowell, which is where the event will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday Feb. 28.
Create Cafe owner Lauri Fay Marks Kaye
Here’s the email from General Manager John Schultz:
Hello,
Create Cafe opened for business in the winter of ’99 in the back of a
locally owned health club selling homemade healthful goodies. While
Lauri, the owner, set out on foot each day going business to business
with baskets of sandwiches to sell, the rest of the staff held down
the fort selling mixed berry smoothies and wooa chicken salad to
health club patrons. The clientele cheered us on while we learned
loads about the food business and even more about marketing as a
result of being tucked back in the corner of the gym. After a year we
knew we were ready for a place of our own.
We excitedly moved to our new home at Grant and Craycroft and
we were delighted at the ability of having our own signage. It was a
tiny space, but at it was OUR tiny space. We continued to learn a lot
about our the business mostly from our customers feedback both pro and
con. Our staff experienced our own weddings, births, group trips, and
other milestones throughout the years. All of these experiences
brought us together and made us feel like family. Fortunately we also
got very busy not only with restaurant sales but with catering which
became our biggest source of revenue. Eventually private and charter
schools began to ask us to service their daily lunches. We had so
much business that it seemed like we were bursting at the seams. It
was time to move again.
August of 2008 , we moved to our present location, 4660 E. Camp
Lowell Dr. which is almost 4 times the space of our previous hole in
the wall. Room enough to have something special for everyone. From our
amazing creative kids corner, to the patio with views of the
Catalinas, the 65 inch screen with cool movies and the food channel,
to the Wii played by fans of all ages, there is always more to enjoy
then our eclectic and scrumptious menu. You helped us celebrate our
grand opening party in October. Now we would like you to come be a
part of our family and celebrate another milestone….our tenth
anniversary. It will be held February 28th from 8 AM- 3 PM. There will
be many things for the kids to enjoy such as a jumping castle, face
painting and balloon animals. Free gifts throughout the day for all
our customers. We’ll be having many lunch specials too. We hope to see
you there!
We’re happy to tell people about goings-on at local businesses. It’s not an ad; they didn’t pay for it. This is just a blog, and considering that we don’t publish news about 10th-anniversary events in the paper, it’s the right place to post this item.
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
