On Sunday Jan. 4, I appealedto owners of new businesses to tell us about yourselves, and we’d feature you in the daily News and Notes column or search for another place for you in the paper. My reasoning was that anyone opening a business in these hard times is newsworthy. The response has been quite strong — two or three dozen calls and emails telling us about new Tucson businesses. I was pleasantly surprised.
Many of the businesses people told us about are new, but not new enough now to constitute news. I had to draw a cut-off, so I made it Dec. 1, 2008 — if the business had opened before then, I didn’t promise any coverage. But I’ve tried to find other ways into the paper for people whose businesses opened before today.
So far, we have also written about five briefs, plus a Q-and-A in today’s paper, about businesses that people have told us about in response to that original note.
Please keep telling us about new local businesses. You can e-mail me at tsteller@azstarnet.com or call at 573-4663. It’s been a pleasure to hear from you.
