OKLAHOMA CITY — For the second straight year and eighth time ever, the Wildcats are national champions.
Pitcher Taryne Mowatt pulled off another Houdini act and two UA hitters made up for earlier mistakes Wednesday, defeating Tenessee 5-0 to win the Women’s College World Series.
Mowatt, who threw 1,035 ptiches in the tournament, was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
The Wildcats scored a whopping five runs in the fifth inning — before making an out.
Caitlin Lowe singled to start the inning and moved to third when K’Lee Arredondo singled and advanced to second on an outfield error.
Kristie Fox was intentionally walked for the second time tonight, loading the bases.
Jenae Leles, whose baserunning interference call cost the UA a run in the third inning, singled home two runs.
Chelsie Mesa then stepped into the box and mashed a pitch over the right field fence for a three-run homer. Mesa had committed an error Friday that allowed the only run in a 1-0 loss to Tennessee.
Mowatt stranded 12 Volunteers on the basepaths.
Awesome game. Awesome comeback. The BEST team won.
However, the University administration and athletic department honchos have disrespected this team by not showing up for the game to support OUR LADY CATS.

It was nice seeing Summitt & Fulmer on site but if you ask our team – if a title is on the line – they’d play the game in an empty lot to win it.
I must say that this game, esp. when played by women, works. I like the short baselines and the pitcher’s distance and the necessity of strategy & “small ball”. So many women’s sports end up as watered down men’s games which, IMHO, limits the potential fan base. This fits.
And, as many have noted, what passion these players exhibit and how deserving they are of what they accomplished. All Cat fans & Alumni are made proud today by these athelets. And, yes, I hope ALL of our various teams (of any gender) were watching. Way to go, Cats!

Great game.Mowatt,Lowe, and especially Christie Fox. Way to go MT Carmel Alum. What a way to finish your college career
This is by far the best team the U of A to offer and I am a diehard B-ball fan. I am so proud to the determination these girls exhibited. They are a credit to this University and all alumni should be proud. Congrats Coach Candrea on title number 8

What an outstanding game! I only caught part of game two but when I heard that the Lady Cats won it in ten innings there was nothing that was going to stop me from watching game three.
Watching both Mowatt and Abbott duel it out, it made me wonder which was going to fold under the pressure. Both pitchers were outstanding and a joy to watch.
Kudos to the team and coaches! Thanks!

This was one of the best runs in UA sports history by ladies who could care
less about how many strike outs, how
few hits, how few runs Monica had
because out girls had CAT PRIDE which
can and did over come all of the above.
We are very lucky to have them in Tucson.

Enough with the ‘disrespect’ stuff…okay? Sheeesh! Are we here to play ball, or look to see who’s in the grandstands? Our young women showed so much pride, and toughness, and have the entire country focused just where it should….their championship hearts!
The following from ESPN: But Arizona got the last two wins—and the title.
The series set an attendance record for the fourth straight year, drawing 62,463 fans to break last year’s mark of 46,122. Among those in attendance Wednesday night was Arizona football coach Mike Stoops.
