tress in students’ lives.
After a long period of being in school, students look forward to any breaks, not for more work, but for relaxation. It is called a “break” for a reason. These sessions without school are meant to give both teachers and students a break from school.
During this wonderful time students and teachers desert the school with ambitious plans to possibly go on a family vacation, visit family members, or simply spend some time at home sleeping in late and catching up on some television. Either way they plan on ridding their minds of anything related to school for a matter of weeks.
Teachers of Advanced Placement classes, who are permitted to give assignments over break, have a different view.
“It keeps them focused and it enables me to cover the content by third quarter, for the AP Exam,” said AP US History teacher, Mrs. Hendricks.
But the rest of us would prefer not to be assigned monstrous projects to complete during the short time students get off.
Students have enough to worry about. Every school year is scattered with tests each more important than the last. With each test students are reminded how crucial the test is and how detrimental it is to their futures.
Considering students already spend two thirds of the year in school, they all need time for themselves during the break. Besides if students are forced to do work during their precious time off they won’t have the chance to relax and refresh their minds, therefore they would be grumpy and exhausted, making the whole atmosphere unbearable.
