ARIVACA FILM EXPOSITION - April 29, 2006
By Barton Santello

The “Arivaca Independent Filmmakers Exposition” is scheduled for April 29th at the Arivaca Community Center. These films - some of which were photographed in Arivaca - will feature Arizona directors and producers. This event is a great opportunity to see creative productions outside of Hollywood and the corporate controlled media. The afternoon films (12-noon to 5 p.m.), will showcase independently created documentaries of area interest. You can choose and attend any of the afternoon films that you find of interest. The evening program (6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.) will exhibit short films in various categories.

Unless otherwise indicated, these films are suitable for general audiences. Please check each movie description. Some documentaries are ‘hot-button’ social-political-environmental issues, and may not be material for children. In general, if you are under 16 years of age, parental escort is advised. However; film shorts during the first half of the evening program, will be more suited for young adults.

Doors open at 6:00 pm for the evening schedule with a 20-minute intermission around 8:30 p.m. Filmmakers in attendance may provide a brief introduction to their film and answer questions. Admission is free for all movies, but a donation box for contributions will help defray the expenses in making this event possible. If you would like to volunteer to help out, contact me (Bart Santello) at 480-620-5386, or email at bart@deserthomestead.com Volunteers are also needed to contribute baked goods for the intermission. Film schedules will be posted and available in Arivaca during April. Also visit www.arivaca.net for info. The Arivaca Community Center is located off of Universal Ranch Road, just past the fire station.

Three films produced by local filmmakers Anna and Scott Griessel will be shown. All three have won awards and have been screened at film festivals across the country! Short-Short "Trust the Chicken", Short "Max Bigg's Big Break", and the TV pilot "AZ Crazy: Absolutely Arivaca"

Hey Anna, sounds cool. I love indie films. I've never been to Arivaca. Is it usually a pretty big turnout? Do you need to get tix in advance? And how much does it cost?

The festival is the first ever Arivaca festiva and it's FREE! I love to go down there, it's a fun place to spend the day. Don't miss Gadsden Coffe, the Bakery, and the artist Coop. Also the Cieniga is worth a look. Have fun!
