The Oro Valley Town Council unanimously voted last night to postpone its plans to annex a two-square-mile area that includes Foothills Mall and Omni Tucson National Golf Resort and Spa.
During negotiations with town employees, large businesses in the area had requested agreements such as tax exemptions and returning some sales tax to the businesses.
“Those demands are not in the best interest of the town from a monetary standpoint and essentially, at this point, from an infrastructure standpoint,” Vice Mayor Helen Dankwerth said.
The town hasn’t specified when it will resume annexation plans.
“Time is the essence of life and the time for this annexation isn’t right now. Things change,” said Scott Nelson, Oro Valley’s special projects coordinator. “This area is in the general planning area of the town and someday I predict it will be part of the town.”
