This week there are several violent films available that fall under different genres. First up is Vacancy, a horror film about a couple in a motel, who discover hidden cameras watching them to be victims in a snuff film. Critics say the film is intense and brutal, and is also incredibly predictable.
The latest Anthony Hopkins film, Fracture, is about a hotshot assistant D.A. prosecuting a confessed shooter, but nothing is as simple as it seems. This is the role that Hopkins was born to play, where several times he crosses over into Hannibal Lecter territory.
From the makers of Shaun of the Dead comes Hot Fuzz, about a top cop who is transferred to a seemingly peaceful village, which is soon rocked by a tough case. Early reviews indicate that the film is truly funny and entertaining, and once again unique in its way of handling the story.
In the Land of Women is also available, and tells a story of a young man who moves in to care for his grandmother and stumbles into the lives of the family across the street. The film is set around the emotions of its characters, which the audience could find too soft or just right.
In limited release there is David Arquette's The Tripper, about a Ronald Reagan-obsessed serial killer, who targets a bunch of hippies who are heading to a weekend-long concert. While Arquette is really proud of this one and called in many favors to have this made, the result is reportedly just bad at its core.
Hot fuzz and Fracture are on my list as must see movies...
