My evening began last night with attendance at a great city council meeting.
a pre-school learning center is scheduled to open soon and may enroll children as young as two years, nine months old. Broadband wireless internet access could be available to the town within the year.
If the May 16 ballot proposals are both approved, transportation needs will be tackled though not fully met.
The library system is being transferred to the county by the city of Tucson. The Green Valley library is already one of the most used in Pima County and it is located on the north side of Green Valley. The downtown library in Tucson has excellent resources.
The Sahuarita middle and high schools are environmentally large and pleasant. However, at this time, they are lacking in resources especially current periodicals.
Communication, transportation and schools could be the links that make Sahuarita a cohesive community. At the same time, they are the essential links to the rest of the world.
Even as they work to stay ahead of the growth curve in this area, the council is aware that the population is exploding much faster than projected even just a year ago. More on this soon.
My evening ended with an email message from a stranger who has recently moved from Arizona to Oregon. Here is a brief quote from a long sad story: "It was some four months into living here we got a note from a man walking the neighborhood about a HOA meeting April 10th 2006. We followed him and asked who he was ....he said he was the secretary of the ASSOCIATION BOARD...but as we asked who is the board, he said, I DON'T KNOW." I was reminded of Kafka's short story "Before the Law."
City council meetings are open and well announced ahead of time. Is this the case with your HOA? Will government, private or public, ever be responsible to its communities without an informed membership?
