There is a serious problem in our school that requires parental involvement immediately. I need volunteers who are willing to help pass out flyers and help educate other parents on the Capitol Outlay Override issue that will be voted on November 7th.
Here is some brief information on the issue:
The way the State funds our school is based on the enrollment of the previous year. With the current growth rate that puts the schools short of funds to buy textbooks, library books, classroom furniture, and classroom computers.
If you have a student who is taking class in the wrestling room you know how uncomfortable and urgent the need is. If you don't have a student in one of these make shift classrooms, let me assure you, it is only a matter of time before this affects your child.
Our schools are doing an applaudable job of trying to meet every child's educational needs but they can only do so much. This is why it is so important that we become familiar with the Capitol Override Election that will generate an additional 1,000,000 per year for seven years. This money will be used to clear debt and provide the urgently needed materials for the classrooms.
The Capitol Override will allow the district to pay for capitol needs that cannot be met by the district's regular capitol budget.
Please consider this issue carefully when heading out to vote this coming November. It is an investment in our community, future and our country.
I will be at SMS open house with flyers to help answer questions on Thursday 6:30. If you would like to help please see me at that time.
Additionally, The Accelerated Reader is on the look out for volunteers. Just an hour or two once a week can make a huge difference in a child's education. Community members can also volunteer. If you are retired, how about considering becoming an AR volunteer. It will be a rewarding experience for both you and the student.
